  4. Do you mean Kerrihard? My 30 pound Star is more than adequate for the work I do. Just be aware any replacement parts will not be available and you will have to make them yourself or pay someone to make them. You also haven't mentioned the price and condition, which would figure into if it's any good. Knowing where in the world you are located may help with answers. I suggest reading this. READ THIS FIRST
  5. Nope, the hole in the water that one pours money into. That reminded me of an old joke. An old timer went fishing with a Game and Fish officer. The old timer lit a half stick of dynamite and threw it in the water. The G&F officer said don't you know that's illegal I should arrest you. The old timer lit another stick and handed it to the G&F officer and said you gonna talk or fish?

  7. Get the 6 inch and snap two together to make a 12 inch pipe stack or two 5 inch for a 10 incher.
  8. Welcome to IFI...I suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST As far as color all of them I've seen were black. Looking through the Buffalo Forge Co catalog, I don't remember any color options. https://ia802801.us.archive.org/14/items/BuffaloForgeCoCatalogNo801/Buffalo Forge Co Catalog No 801_text.pdf
  9. We all get rude at times and usually get over it in short order. BTW welcome to the insanity, this thread will help you get the best out of the forum. I apologize in advance if you have already seen & read it. READ THIS FIRST
  10. Didn't someone do a review about the same problem, not sure of it being a Kanca though.
  11. Or just fall apart under the weight of both ends. That happened to me when heating a piece of hay rake tine. It was in the fire at the center of the curve with both ends sticking up. Don't know if I can find that post but the consensus was overheating without burning. Found the pictures. Looking at the first picture, I think there was a hot spot in the fire, possibly due to clinker.
  12. Or give up fishing to take up blacksmithing. Got tired of my fish costing me $3,000 per pound, once caught an 18 pound bass that ran me $54,000.
  13. The forges that say clay before using are usually cast iron so no real need to paint before applying the clay. You can use river bank clay if there is some near you or make your own from cheap unscented kitty litter with bentonite clay listed as an ingredient, sand and water to mix to a stiff consistency. If you have a pottery supply store near you fire clay will work very well.

  17. Yep... Farrier nail nippers. They can be reforged into good working tongs if you have no use for them.
  18. Good move, we have been lucky in that dosen't happen very often on the forum.
  19. When I tried to open the sweep charts I got a warning about infected links (or something like that) and now I see they are no longer here.
  20. Forget the refractory cement. That's been discussed many times, it's made for sticking fire bricks together and isn't very good for claying a forge not much better than Plaster of Paris & sand. BTW welcome to IFI... have you read this yet? It will help you get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  21. I believe it is an American Star, produced by Trenton anvils and the 7 is the weight as produced. Looks like it has had a hard life but is still very usable. Hope you have read about not grinding, milling or welding on the hardened face. I'm sure others will chime in with more info.
