Using leg vise as hardy tool holder
Greetings 007, You could make up a simple block to hold your tools in the vise. Handy tool even when you have a hardy hole in your anvil for multipal applications. Forge on and make beautiful things Jim

Scale weight?
Greetings 762, Your iron block might just be an add on weight for a small tractor. 47 pounds does not seem like a break or shear counter weight. Just guessing .. Door stop? Forge on and make beautiful things Jim

Unusual looking anvil
Greetings 16, IMO... It looks like a MHF special build for inserting into a fixture for some kind of a power hammer. The squared off section appears to be designed to slide into something and no face plate. I would not modify it in any form and a simple stand made from square tubing works well for hardi tools. I have 2 and use them frequently, Forge on and make beautiful things Jim

What's wrong with my post vise
Greetings Quench, The problem is at the pivot alignment. Loosen the bolt and move the floor post side to side. Many times a small shim on the inside of the cheek will correct the problem. If the post is not a fixed to the floor it will also drift and cause jaw alignment problems.. Good luck Forge on and make beautiful things Jim

Tealight holder
Greetings Bhutto, I make mine from one piece of 1/8 plate and form the stem and leaf from the parent material . No welding just carful hammer control. They take a good 2 hours each . I make quite a few for Christmas presents.. A challenge but worth the extra work. Have fun. Forge on and make beautiful things Jim

The most used tool you made for your shop.
Greetings all, Thought I would share my favorites made from old monkey wrenches and little used vise grips. 1st. Tinners vise grip welded to a chunk of angle iron. Makes a handy horizontal hold for many things such as filing flat stock. 2nd.. My trusty monkey wrenches re-purposed to bending forks and the slickest way to do square bends and close ratio bends. If you use 5/8 or 3/4 round bar for the forks you can use all those nice dies that came with that cold bending rig that you bought from HF that never gets used.. Enjoy and merry Christmas.. i have been using them for years and years and our local Michigan group just wrote it up in our publication . MABA .. THE UPPSETTER. Comments and suggestions welcomed ..

log skidder arch hauler built
Greetings Angiolino, I made one years ago and it has served me well . The arch frame is a Volkswagen Rabbit rear wheel and axle assembly and the main frame is 3 inch square tubing.. In the front is a simple boat wench with a pulley at rear to guide and lift the log. I have lifted and pulled many 15 inch diameter 20 foot long logs with ease. I hope this helps with your build. Upsetting Vise
Greetings, The Green River Three has an adjustable stop and guide blocks which are also used for bolt heading. It works well for upsetting a long bar. Other foot caulking vises like the Wells have adjustable stops but the stock must be pinched in the vise. Somewhat cumbersome balancing on one foot. I have both and prefer the Green River. Toy Box
Greetings 01, I think it's great that you built a life long treasure for your son. Boys will be boys so I will make a suggestion.. The lift handle screwed in the thin part of the top will work like a lever and is subject to shearing off and splitting the wood. Just an old boys observation . Keep up the great work.. Demo forge fire maintenance tools
Greetings all, Our Michigan blacksmith group has an annual Christmas party and auction which helps support our events and wonderful news letter. I got tired of the samo samo things so I designed a demo forge fire maintenance set for the auction. Normally we end up taking a small forge with tools that are much to big for what we need. I included 3 items. A fire rake, a small shovel and my famous ( LOL) clinker getter. Feel free to copy and make one for yourself . Forge on and make beautiful things Jim

Wrought Iron Bar?
Greetings Matthew, Looks to be true wrought iron.. Two easy ways to tell .. A split and bend or a spark test for carbon content.. To forge its best to have it white hot and slow and easy blows to start. Pay attention to your hammer blows and when you hear a dull thud re-heat ., Fun to work with if you know the basics. Possible belt driven grinder restoration project
Greetings NB, That type of grinder system was quite typical in the past... Commonly a washing machine motor was belted to the grinder which most of the time had a flat belt drive and brass bushings in the grinder which is a lower RPM design. The long and the short of it all it's not worth restoring and is dangerous with an open belt. I applaud you interest in saving old equipment but your efforts would be better spent something else..
