  1. Some of you haven't heard of this........, Aspell Spell helper....... use it, ......it wouldn't hurt,.... sometimes...... for some of us.....( like me, sometimes )
  2. make a chisel out of it ......harden in oil...... temper to straw.......cool in water. If it's a good chisel, the sky's the limit !

  5. over the past few years I've had this conversation with several smiths. My take on it is, how much do you pay an auto mechanic ? there are several answers to this, backyard mechanics get paid less than the dealers ( who get around $100 an hour ) and there are private shops that get $65 an hour. Mechanics are everywhere, our trade no longer has a vast number of practitioners, don't you think we at least deserve a mechanics wage ? Now it boils down to what kind of mechanic are you, dealers?...backyard ?.. in between ?.
  6. from bare steel to the customers home....hammer, forge, anvil, we do it all the time. If you have to grind it or file it you didn't forge it good enough
  7. when I was a kid (20 yrs old ) I worked at an Agway feed mill to supplement my shoeing income, a guy came to show us the danger of working around grain dust. He lit a match, put it in a box with a plexi glass window and blew into a hose to get the dust airborne, the window wasn't necessary because the box blew apart !.....beware of bio dust and oily rags

  12. if those are the only stones let it go, I always find rocks in my coke, it bothered me at first, especially buying two tons at a time, its not the cheapest solid fuel around, but it is the best. ( for me anyway )

  16. I've been through this whole thing for the past year...... Without going into details.... i'm sure they want a level surface to mount it on,..( meaning shale, or item "4" ) or it will be a lot more bucks for a foundation. Try shedsusa.com, see what you come up with.

  19. Hi DickB........ Gassman coal in Brooklyn, it's expensive...around $850 a ton, maybe they sell bags, I'll find out today if I can....
  20. I haven't seen Brian's flue, however, I think you need a heat shield where the flue goes through the roof line to prevent heat transfer to the surrounding wood structure.....wouldn't you say ?
