February 15Feb 15 Larry, I have been debating that myself. It’s half novelty, half something he actually might use, so I’ll probably end up sanding it. Hefty, love that die selection. I still have to get around to making one! Any chance you know what brand you anvil is, its geometry has me intrigued.

February 15Feb 15 Where are my tongs? I spent the better part of 5 minutes looking for my tongs... the ones in my hand that were in my hand the whole time i was looking. Anywho, finished this scrolling wrench for an upcoming hammer in as a trade item. 1/2" wide made of 5160.

Yeah, I have thought of making him something. He's never actually said anything himself, but his wife spoke to me once. She was really nice about it, but she just asked if I could do it a little less often because the regular "tapping", as she called it, really gets to him. So, every now and then I stop earlier than I would prefer because I have this guilty feeling while I'm forging.
February 16Feb 16 Yesterday at our group’s hammer-in we started a chain project. Here’s my contribution so far: The swivel link is a little iffy, but it was more or less an experiment for me. I spent most of the time helping/teaching beginners on their links. I also made some more progress on the Viking bellows. Keep it fun, David
February 16Feb 16 Goods, i actually have a drift that is specifically made for doing swivels. It has a 3/8" shank that shoulders up to 1/2" so to make a pocket. I usually, well used to aint made one in along time now, make swivels with a hook. Forge a wrapped ball on the end of the hook that sits in the pocket. A bit trickier but you can do the same with a rivet.
February 17Feb 17 The usual routine. But there are a few fresh ideas. A heater hangs above the table to help the resin harden faster, and a mesh screen protects it from the cats who like to sit under it.
February 18Feb 18 Nice nice work everyone, Really like the bending fork Billy - a lot. Cool swivel David. Beautiful spoon John Great stuff as always Alexandr, do you ever sleep? :-)

February 19Feb 19 I got the big Peter Wright on its stand yesterday and got it a workout. Forged another blacksmith handled cleaver, a nail and a couple key holders. I also broke another hammer handle. 3rd one in 2 weeks. Gonna have to stop of and get some replacements.
February 20Feb 20 I made a little more progress on the bellows for my Viking kit tonight: Keep it fun, David
February 24Feb 24 I was repairing a knife Last night. Yeah it was a cheap Paki mall blade but someone wanted to save it and I said I would. I didn't realize how little tang there was after I removed the crumbling diecast. But I quick forged a new one and decided to make a similar guard. Slot cut through the guard, fit it on hot and got an extremely tightbcompression fit. Ran out of time before I got the wood cut but it didn't take me long and I'm pretty happy with how it looks.
February 25Feb 25 Playing around tonight, made a quick and simple trivet from quarter inch square, started a heart shaped trivet, I'll get the legs on it tomorrow, and a blacksmith handled cleaver. I've made three of these now. I am hoping they will move well but they are fun to make.
February 28Feb 28 Earlier this week, I worked on making some mirror clips for a funky frameless mirror we wanted to hang on the bathroom door. Not my cleanest work but the mirror is up! I have ideas to make the next batch better. Still have two more of these mirrors to mount on the wall of Ashley's fiber space. Tonight, I finally finished the candle sconce I started in January for the trade item at that month's meeting. I ended up getting sick and wasn't able to complete it in time and now that I'm fully recovered, I decided to finish. The design was inspired by an abstract painting, "The Flow of Yoga" by Dustin Sypher. Dustin is an artist blacksmith and obviously also an artist in other mediums! I need to work on making round shapes in the middle of a bar (I've only ever done them on the end) but otherwise, I'm happy with how it turned out!
February 28Feb 28 Nice job on the candle sconce Shaina & thanks for sharing the piece that inspired it. Always interesting to see how different people connect the dots (no pun intended in this case). I think your progression of shapes goes nicely with the backplate. --Larry
February 28Feb 28 I really like that candle wall sconce. The mirror clips look a lot like a prototype of some stocking holders I tried making. The hook came out wonky so it wasn't exactly a success, but it looks like the idea will work with some adjustments.
February 28Feb 28 Nice creative work Shainarue. I also like the cat picture in the upper left lol. It can be tricky at first to make rounds in the middle of stock. Spacing is important, and leave a little more meat in the fullers so when you take it to the edge of the anvil to round it out it doesn't get too wonky. Then once you get the parts more round you can go back and fuller it more then it just needs a little cleanup. Brian, I would add a little more to the part setting on the mantle, otherwise the weight of the stocking may pull it down. Your idea is a solid one tho.
February 28Feb 28 Made the wife a new ice pick. She is weird about ice, she will not use the ice tray we have but has to go buy ice. She says ice out of trays tastes funny. Any way a piece of clock spring from the hood of a Dodge truck, random dowel rod i had in the shop, i think it is poplar, and a copper plumbing cap. 1/4" square tenon goes into a 1/4" round hole and then some epoxy. Nothing fancy.
February 28Feb 28 Ummm, what was that one movie again with Sharon Stone? It's a nice looking piece Billy. I might make one for my freezer, all the ice just freezes into big chunks.
