September 23, 20241 yr John, that is a happy customer and something to be proud of. Come on Frosty, saying what I said wasn't enough? While I said what I meant it was meant as a compliment. Even if I conveyed it poorly. I didn't say it looks like twisted trash in a dumpster fire, waiting to be burried under ground for eternity. I simply said it would suit Rail Bender quite nicely. Or something like that.
September 23, 20241 yr Thanks, Das and Frosty. He's one of my oldest friends, so I'm not only happy with how it looks, but also with how happy it makes him. As for insults, I've long been of the opinion that if someone says something bad about me, it's either true (in which case I have a problem) or false (in which case they have a problem). Also, as Frederick Douglass put it, "A gentleman will not insult me, and no man not a gentleman can insult me."
September 23, 20241 yr Excellent sentiment and good stuff all. 1/2” and 3/4”, going to heat treat today if possible.
September 23, 20241 yr I sincerely apologize Das, I was just tossing a little friendly funning at you guys. I didn't see anything you said I thought was insulting so tried to insert a little humor in. It was my bad, I say things I think are funny but aren't, all too often and it bites me often enough I should've learned by now. Worse than that I know you can be pretty sensitive and just didn't think. I can't tell you how sorry I am. Honest. Humbly yours, Frosty.
September 23, 20241 yr Whoa Frosty, no worries, nothing to be sorry for. I was just being silly but sometimes my humor comes out a little dry. I'm not sensitive to stuff, I just carried it and it sounded a bit dry. Sorry for that. No need to apologize at all. We're good. Sorry to you if it came off that way.
September 23, 20241 yr Since Covid I've become aware of my tendency to say things I "Think" are funny but regular people think are snarky, sarcastic, etc. and taking serious things like a joke. Maybe it makes me over sensitive to my tendency to shoot myself in the foot. Anyway, we'll always be good in my book Das, we'd have to call each other names for a while to change that. Thanks, Frosty.
September 23, 20241 yr I agree Frosty, I don't see us not being good. If I didn't mean something nice I will typically keep my fingers off the keyboard. It takes someone being super unsafe or very rude and disrespectful for any Claws to come out.
September 24, 20241 yr I can’t begin to describe how insultingly inoffensive the two of you are being right now.
September 24, 20241 yr I'm lost... what are we talking about? I'm having to build more roses, sold out at the show on Saturday. Only had three but still, didn't expect them all to go.
September 24, 20241 yr Very nice Chad, you're getting good at roses! What's going on is, it's looking like John needs an intervention. Join Das and I giving John a group cyberhug! Frosty The Lucky.
September 24, 20241 yr Nice work Chad. One of the best compliments to your work is people willing to pay you to own it. I can't tell if John needs a hug or to be offended. Let's go with the hug. Haha.

September 24, 20241 yr Thanks guys! John, let me know when the tappers are on and where. I'll go on a road trip to support that kind of stuff. Gewoon, if he has enough of them he may not know whether we're being nice or not so the debate between Das and Frosty would be moot. That being said, bring on the fermented barley tea with hops addatives.

I bet if you had one to spare it would look terrific in the bouquet Steve is trying to put together for Glenn's memorial. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/71183-glenns-memorial/ I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s.~ Semper Paratus
September 25, 20241 yr I agree those roses are fantastic! I’ve been working on trying to get inventory together for an upcoming demo/festival and haven’t posted many pictures of my progress. So, here’s what I’ve been doing in the forge for the past couple sessions: 12 blacksmith knives from 52100, (bottom 4 still need to have the rough edge sharpened), and two tomahawks. Top hawk is ready for and edge. The bottom one is ready for the bit weld (then the real work of overall refinement). Lots more to go! Keep it fun, David
September 25, 20241 yr Don't mind at all. I was charging 110 each. I'm considering raising that a bit more the way they are leaving my tables right now.
September 25, 20241 yr When I was working in the furniture business, my boss liked to price things just high enough that the last one would sell right before the next batch became available. Lovely knives, Chad.
September 25, 20241 yr John, I like that twisted up C channel. I'll have to keep it in mind next time I do another sea sculpture because I think it captures the element of seaweed wonderfully!

When we had our business going and at craft fairs etc. We would always price our goods higher than what we thought they were worth because of haggling. Sometimes items would sell for the listed price, even though we had a sign that said Haggling accepted. Most folks love to haggle at those venues. September 25, 20241 yr Hanging out during Open Crafting Hours at the yarn shop, I took advantage of the opportunity to fix the power cord on one of the angle grinders I picked up yesterday. That stretches “in the shop” a bit, I know. 4 hours ago, Shainarue said: I like that twisted up C channel. In the end, the customer liked it too, so I’ve only got two left to make.
September 26, 20241 yr Some bits and boba I needed. A V-blok quick and easy from square 20mm Amd a small tong GS-tong style for small stock, will hold 5mm round safe, max 8mm. Perfect for small leafs and hooks and stuf like that. Made them short, but bit to shory I think. Will see in use, i can always draw out the reigns.
September 26, 20241 yr Nice job, Gewoon. What style forge do you use? I can see this not causing a warm hand with a coal forge but some style of gas forges... My small pieces always seem to migrate to the very back of the forge. Yes, I did put a back door on it for that reason...
September 26, 20241 yr Gasforge. Made them from 250mm long bar. But underestimated the length needed for the jaws. We see, it is mild steel and winter is coming
