Fe-Wood Posted June 16, 2012 Share Posted June 16, 2012 Wow, Thats interesting! I went to reduce the picture size and ended up with double posts, Sorry- Great Forges here all! I'm amazed at the diversity, complexity and simplicity of all your forges. It furthers my belief that there are as many ways to do something as there are people trying to do them. My first forge started as a 55gl drum and an old porcelain wet bar sink with a perforated plate as the grate. I used a Champion Blower (same one I'm using now on the forge in the picture). I wish I had a picture... It was pretty funky but it worked well. The first picture is one I copied from Brian Brazeal. I wanted an easy portable forge for demo's and clinics. This works great! As best as I can tell it's one of the last P220's made before Sig switched to the new style with the integrated Picatinny rail under the barrel. The grips are kinda special, too. I picked it up for $200 the day I was going to just start building my own because I could never find one. Its a Champion but I don't know what model. Jeff Lodge Posted July 23, 2012 Share Posted July 23, 2012 Finally got the time to complete the build with the blower stand and forge table for my drum forge setup. The base of the table is an old server rack that I attached some wood planks to and then I found an old stainless steel door at the scrap yard to hold the coal. I added the wheels from a donor lawn mower so I can move it around with ease. I am still able to use the adjustable height on the wheels so I can level the table out once it's in place. I took the tractor supply exhaust flap idea and used it on my ash dump as well. Now I just need to get some time to use it! Frosty Posted May 13, 2013 Share Posted May 13, 2013 A hair drier will serve you much better than a leaf blower. A dimmer switch is likely to burn the leaf blower motor out pretty quickly. I believe induction motors need a cycle limiter rather than a dimmer. Whatever you do DON'T take my word for things electrical, I hire a specialist to wrangle electrons.
