Used my birthday holiday to extend the 4th to a 4 day weekend. Took a trip to Wyoming to pick up a parts car I have been looking at for several months. 1956 Imperial sedan. Now that I have it home it is in better shape than expected, and well optioned. Now I am deciding if I use it for parts or?????. The Dodge did good hauling it back. Total weight with the trailer was around 10k pounds. This is the max for the 1500 with the Hemi. I would have used the 3500 Cummins but I have it down for some maintenance. 1,537 miles over 32 hours of driving. Had a fun weekend for once.

For small bars a pair of bolt cutters works a charm for cutting them.

We passivated the parts we machined to remove the surface iron exposed. We sent it out for that process as the customer could request either citric or nitric acid passivation.

If they won't give it to ask if you can pay scrap price for it. Here scrap is $40 a ton or 2 cents a pound.. Either way, afterwards I would make something for them and drop it off as a thank you. A friend went to his yard during the summer with a case of Gatorade for the guys and they would let him grab the scraps.

NIce truck Old Crew. I gave a 72 Highboy (360, factory 4bbl, 4 speed) to a local out here. He has it up and running now, and it looks good. Welshj, those are just a few of the cars I own. The 94 is the donor for the 56 sedan. I have 2 more 94s that I have to go pick up, and looking to go to Burlington WY this weekend to get a 56 Imperial sedan parts car, if I can get the 40' car trailer unloaded in time. I gave my first car to a friend in TX. 1974 Gold Duster 318 4bbl 3 speed stick. It was a mess and he is converting it into a Demon. I got outbid on a wrecked 03 Ram SRT/10 that would have been the donor for the 56 2dr. Also looking at the cast iron V10s as they put out 400-450 ft lb from 1,300 to 5,000 rpm. but there is not the aftermarket for them like the Viper engine. Could also do the 5.7/6.1/6.4 swap. Depends on what I find for the right price. My all time favorite car though is a 41 Willys coupe. Have not got one of those........ yet.

I was going to suggest Pacific Heat Treating. They had great prices and lots of small furnaces, so no long wait times. They sent our items back in 24 hours.

The best waffles I have ever had come off my Sunbeam CG-1 waffle iron, and the plates are aluminum. Crispy outer with fluffy insides. Add butter and powdered sugar, peanut butter, apricot jam, or pomegranate jelly and have at it. Once the plates get seasoned they are non stick like cast iron. The Sunbeam CG-1 was as close to commercial grade that you could get in a home waffle iron. 4x4 waffles so 64 sq" of waffle goodness at a time. I inherited Mom's that she got in 1950, and it still works like a champ. I also want to cast custom waffle irons, and I am leaning towards aluminum.

I am a machinist by trade, but plant maintenance at the moment. I bounce around on different hobbies. I have done ceramics, drawing, shooting, gunsmithing, wood carving, leather working, just got some chickens, cars, cars, and more cars. Currently messing with a couple of 1956 Imperial projects. The 4 door is going to be a 4wd with a 12V Cummins, and the 2dr a hot rod. The 60 Windsor 2dr hdt is on the back burner along with the 72 Olds ambulance and 1967 M715. Have some books on soap making, knitting (Mom was a prolific knitter and crocheter), have some industrial sewing machines, want to get a garden set up which is not as easy here in the desert as it was back home, and want to try working with hot glass, My biggest issue recently has been motivation. Several things have been killing it for awhile.. Not sure if the one is full on depression or just sadness dragging me down. Easily distracted to low level activities.....like the internet, and I keep putting off stuff that I know I need to do.

George, I have never heard wood spoke wheels ever referred to as artillery wheels. The artillery wheels were the solid steel, or the ones with holes all around the rim.

UV which I call ultra violent rays. I never had a problem with valve stems back home, not a one. Move here and they go like popcorn... When they go, they get replaced with all metal stems. Wiper blades last like a cheap blue tarp, one season, and get maybe a couple hours of intermittent use. The singe digit humidity mixed with triple digits gets tourists in trouble. They dehydrate without knowing it since the sweat evaporates so fast. Next thing they feel is the hot concrete as they hit the deck. I carry water in the cars.

It is starting to warm up here, and we have seen 110F a couple of times already. The chickens handled it really well. CGL, I can see how these little dinosaurs can be addictive. Amazing how fast they grow. Irondragon, I have around 20 at the moment. A few are for sale, and I finally found a donor truck for my 4 door 56 Imperial project down in San Antonio TX. 1994 Dodge 2500 4x4 5 speed with a 12V Cummins. I got outbid on a wrecked 04 Ram SRT/10 with a 6 speed for the 2 door 56 Imperial hot rod. Hans, it's good to be back. I just wish things would get back to the old normal soon. I miss my casino buffets Frosty, the Southern NV desert heat is good for something it appears, or maybe it is all of the fallout from the nuke tests We also have free arsenic and asbestos in areas nearby. Ya gotta be tough or crazy to live here.

Most is still recycled RR rails. I went to some of the major manufacturer's websites and they showed the rail being split and rolled. But yes, that is not 100% of manufacturer's. Always test a sample(s) first

Finally got my ISP out to replace my old dish that konked out. I now have internet on the desktop again. Looks like March 16 was my last time here, and y'all have been busy. As for me, I have been working steady through this whole affair. Food manufacture being essential and all. We have been busy working 5 to 7 days a week, and even did some hiring. Things are finally starting to get back to normal around Las Vegas, the only bad part is I have to share the roads again I have joined the chicken raising fraternity when a coworker gave me seven 5 week old Rhode Island Reds, 2 roosters and 5 hens. As for the Covidness. No one at work sick, no one I know sick, no one in my valley sick, and very few (7,915) in all of Clark County, pop. 2,267,000 or 0.3%. Every Saturday morning and a couple of Sundays I attended my Carowner virus support groups Lots of really nice cars in the area. Kind of our little rebellion. And lets face it, Carowner virus is one of the strongest ones out there, and no known cure. Well, it is almost 9:30am so I better hit the hay because I have to double back for a late swing shift today since one of their guys is out.

twigg, one thing to keep in mind when using bed frames is that they are mostly made from recycled railroad rails, and high carbon. They can develop cracks when welded, and not annealed afterwards. They do make nice wood chisels, and knives.

A lot would depend on the design and construction of the anvil. Plated aligned vertically I would say, bevel and weld. Horizontally-100% penetration to eliminate any gaps that could spring. Again, depends on the details.

Personally I couldn't part with a family heirloom like that, and it appears to be in great shape. From what I have seen, a Swede of that size and condition would sell for a bit more than $900. Now, as to making some extra cash and buying it from your dad to help him out. You can do around $1,500 a month delivering pizzas depending on the city you live in. A security guard at work was making $300 a month recycling soda cans from the breakroom trash cans. I am constantly finding screaming deals at garage sales that could be flipped for a tidy profit. Not knowing your background, and skills, it is hard to say what you could do to earn the extra needed, but $900 is doable. There are also internet gigs that can earn you extra cash. Again, not knowing your details it is hard to recommend anything specific. But I would do what I could to hang onto that anvil. Sell it and the money passes through your hands quickly. Keep it, and make a lifetime of memories with it. Your choice.

IF&C, my 2005 Vibe GT was the victim of a hit and run last night. Got their plate number, but who knows if the cops will follow up on it. Zippy made it through the scuffle with just a kinked right front fender, their car has a crushed in driver's door now.

Nothing needs to be done to it except mount it and start using it.

A local has two 1965 Jeeps for sale. One is complete and running with the original 4 banger. Not stock, and has had some modifications done. And the second one is a rolling shell, but he has a 4.3 Vortec and auto that he also had for sale. He was asking $7,000 , and $700. The Engine and trans with the computer $85. Looking to lighten the load before moving. No interest for me, as my 4x4 project is a 56 Imperial that I want to put on a second gen Dodge 2500, or 3500 4x4 with a Cummins and a stick. A single cab long bed is the perfect wheelbase, so no frame shortening needed.
