  2. I don't believe the first one was originally a farrier's anvil. The side clip looks like an add on to me. If you can take a picture of the underside of the foot and tail, they may have a clue there.
  3. A 50/50 mix of transmission fluid and acetone works even better than turpentine and faster too.
  4. Yes, welcome and thank you, if you have read some, I'm sure you have seen my posts advising new folks to read that thread and why. Some folks even think that's my job.
  5. Always...Always chock all 4 wheels both front and behind when working under any vehicle on stands or not. I worked a case where a young man was replacing the rear u-joint on his jacked up large tired 4X4. It was so high he didn't need to jack it up and was able to sit up bent over under it. When he disconnected the driveshaft the truck rolled back and pinned him in a bent over position. He died of positional asphyxiation.
  6. Also a propane plumbers hand torch will bring it up to the proper temp (about as warm as a cup of coffee) don't need it to forging temp.
  7. I couldn't get the link to work, but a search brought up this article among others. https://www.thedrive.com/news/33679/scary-photos-of-recalled-harbor-freight-jackstands-show-just-how-dangerous-they-are

  13. Excellent idea. I usually run a die a ways then two nuts locked together. This is a much better solution to protecting threads when a vise is needed to hold a rod or large bolts.

  15. I have that same band saw and it's a real workhorse, been working very well for the past 40 years. A hint though, pull the cover off the gear box and check the grease, after about 20 years mine became dried out and I had to re-grease it. The only other problem I had was the handle for the vise broke and I had to make another last year. I've lost count on how many blades I've gone through.
