  1. Welcome aboard, have you read this yet?READ THIS FIRST It will help you get the best out of the forum with tips like editing you profile to show location + many others.
  2. A location is also needed, hence the suggestion to edit profile to show location. BTW have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST
  3. Yes, setup the burners and apply some heat to set the rigidizer. That was answered in your other thread.
  4. If you look at the top banner here, you will see a section, Gas Forge Supplies, you can get everything you need there. If you edit your profile to show location, we won't have to ask all the time.
  5. That was going to be my suggestion. One can never have too many forges. We have one propane we built from an old 20 pound tank which has worked well for what we use it for and thinking about building a larger one. Then we have two coal forges, one permanent and one portable, to take to meetings/demos and one side blast charcoal forge in the process of building it. Here is a link to the propane forge build. 20 pound propane tank forge in progress - Gas Forges - I Forge Iron
  6. A good score indeed. If you wire wheel the rust off there may be remnants of a maker mark on it and a picture of the underside of the base may also hold a clue to the maker. I hope you have read about not doing any grinding, milling or welding on the hardened face, which to me looks welded on. Is there a serial number on the feet under the horn?
  7. Welcome aboard... I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST It is full of tips like editing your profile location because knowing where in the world you are located is required to give accurate answers. As far as how much square feet for a shop, no matter how much you have it is never enough. For how much room for a single burner propane forge, most take up less than 4 sq. ft.
  8. What loaded is a 10 second Youtube video of a brake drum being tapped with a hammer. Supposed to be about the statement of bell not ringing. To upload a picture now you have to resize the pixels by 50% before uploading or it will time out and give an error msg.
  9. When we built our place here, I did all the plumbing and put the toilets, sinks and showers on the septic system. Then a separate grey water system for the washing machine, large laundry room sink and dishwasher that goes to a dry-well down the hill. The only mistake I made with the septic tank was to put in a 500 gal steel tank. It rusted out and collapsed after about 12 years so it was replaced with a 1000 gal polly tank. Going on 20 years without a problem now. Here is Merlin inspecting everything.
  10. Welcome aboard, sounds like you are well on your way in the addiction.
  11. Welcome aboard, I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST It is full of tips like editing your profile to show location because we won't remember it once leaving this post. For items that you want to sell, they should be posted in the Tailgating sub forum, just be sure to read the thread about posting there.
  12. Great restoration. When I saw the first pictures, I thought no way that will ever work again. Happy to have been proven wrong.
  13. Welcome aboard, I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST Old BBQ carts are made for forges and usually free (around here folks dump them by the side of the road). Here is mine top made out of thin sheet metal.
  14. I'm going to have to sharpen myself back up to my previous dullness ~ pnut
  15. This came to me via the BOA news letter. My grandfather worked in a blacksmith shop when he was a boy, and he used to tell me, when I was a little boy myself, how he had toughened himself up so he could stand the rigors of blacksmithing. One story was how he had developed his arm and shoulder muscles. He said he would stand outside behind the house and, with a 5 pound potato sack in each hand, extend his arms straight out to his sides and hold them there as long as he could. After awhile he tried 10 pound potato sacks, then 50 pound potato sacks and finally he got to where he could lift a 100 pound potato sack in each hand and hold his arms straight out for more than a full minute! Next, he started putting potatoes in the sacks.
  16. About the only thing a gauge on the forge does is give you a reference point to your forge, say when firing it up. I use the gauge to get close then adjust as nessessary by sight & sound. I once fired the forge not realizing the regulator was set at 20psi. A big surprise when a fireball rolled out the door.
  17. Correct... BTW, you might want to edit your last post, quoting the post just prior to your reply is not necessary and frowned upon. The reason behind that is we have members world wide some who still have to rely on dial up internet/bandwidth or pay extra for data and that type of quoting uses both. OH while you are at it, if you edit your profile to show your location, you may be surprised how many members are close enough to visit and lend a hand and a lot of answers require knowing where in the world you are located.
  18. Welcome aboard... I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST It is full of tips like editing your profile to show your location, never know if there are members close enough to stop by and give a hand. Other tips about how to do the most effective search (the forum search leaves a lot be desired), on downloading pictures and many others some may help in flying under the moderators radar. You have to resize pictures by 50% for them to upload without timing out and getting an error msg.
  19. You can put the name in and let folks look it up, but putting a link to a commercial site is not allowed. The moderators are pretty strict about that.
  20. The only markings I see are punch marks where the blacksmith tested the hardness of tools he made.
