  1. I rang the anvil in the Celtic garden to support you and offer this like my wife told me "This too shall pass". I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  2. We wine about it, if we get 3 inches, however it usually is preceded by a quarter inch of ice. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  3. I do too, hope everything is OK with her. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  4. A lot of the members have made a lot of lump charcoal. There is a few threads about it in Solid Fuels. Here is one I have bookmarked. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/59604-charcoal-she-retorted/ I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  5. When I get that look it's where is my treat. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  6. Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. If you can take pictures of the opposite side of the picture shown and a little closer also the bottom of the base, lots of time the look of the bottom will offer clues. Are there any numbers stamped in to the foot under the horn? Over all it looks like a very good anvil no matter the maker. Another thing that might help is to know your general location as anvils are made all over the world. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  7. There was a neighbor on the ridge east of us about a mile as the crow flies. He had a 1950 ford pick up that he restored, nice John Deer green. He was born and raised in Carroll County. One day I was headed to the next town east of us and when I came up the hill out of the Kings River bridge, I saw him sitting on the side of the road. Seems he had run out of gas and the battery was low from trying to get it started. I pulled over in front of him and asked if I could help. He appreciated it and asked if I could go up and get him some gas. I said how about if we hooked up a chain and I would pull him up to the station. He was really surprised that I would do that and we hooked up my chain and off we went. I pulled him in to the Outpost station at the top of the grade, right up to a gas pump. While he was filling his tank, I unhooked the chain and turned around and pulled up to the front of his truck, got out my jumper cables and hooked up to jump start the truck. He was so impressed that I would do all that for someone I had only met once and wanted to pay me. I told him that he could do me the same favor if he saw me stranded sometime. From that time on Bill must have spread the word around and Debi & I and both boys who were in school were accepted as locals.
  8. When we moved to the Ozarks, one of the first folks, who were native to the area, that we met and became friends with, told us that around here strangers are tolerated. Just give it time for you to be accepted. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  9. Also adding a little lube, like bees or candle wax to all sliding area's helps in sealing and reduces friction. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  10. With that latest rant, it wouldn't surprise me if he has been restricted from posting for a while. Admin. can only be expected to take so much abuse before deciding that's enough. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  11. Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. I really like the forge and the tong rack built in. The planned edging could be something simple like the stock used for the tong rack with short sections of 1/4 inch round stock welded on, that will drop into holes drilled in the brick or u shaped brackets on the sides to keep it from falling off, but easily removed if needed. 12. I don't have any experience with them, However I have had experience with Holland Anvil in MI and highly recommend them. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  13. I found the members log on it's Stamp man might try sending him a PM. Or google his business. He is who Glenn recommend to me. If I recall right my stamp cost under $100 U.S. Columbia Marking tools company, (CMT) I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  14. There is a member here that makes good touch mark stamps. He has posted on the thread about them. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  15. Have you checked the entire mixing tube for any obstruction like packing material. It looks to me with the hair blower it will pass sufficient air but without the blower it's not getting enough air. Oh and BTW your video's will not play for me, I get a network error msg. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  16. I would hit the crack with a touch of weld from the wire MIG welder, then file it smooth. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  17. Wow... the last time I bought some it was $9.95 a 20 lb bag on sale at the end of BBQ season. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  18. Looks pretty good to me, should hold your helmet just fine. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  19. When I put my cheater glasses on it does look like it's attached to some form of wood, possibly drift wood from a trader passing through. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  20. Along with gas welding, if you have a stick welder that will convert to DC current carbon arc rods will work very well, the forerunner to TIG welding. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  21. I have to agree with George. I think trying to repair the small problems would cause more harm than good. I enlarged the pictures and the sway does not appear to extend the total width of the sweet spot. Maybe a picture with a straight edge front to back would show it better. I have about an eighth of an inch sway on the Hay Budden and it helps when straightening a knife blank I have forged out, by eliminating any spring back in the stock. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  22. We moved the 1200 lb Star power hammer that way using 1in schedule 80 black pipe sections. Debi was the roller replace artist and the adult supervisor. Moved it about 20 feet from the A frame to get it out of the truck to the garage floor, then a right angle turn to get it to the blacksmith shop door. Went pretty fast without a hitch.
  23. Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. Several of us have agreed on that the best way to date an anvil, is to whisper sweet nothings to her, compliment her on her looks and hit hot steel on her. BTW... She looks like a sweet anvil. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
  24. No scientific study just experience. I can move metal faster on my Hay Budden 106 pound anvil, which has 80% rebound with a steel ball bearing, than I can on my 110 pound Vulcan anvil which, has 50% rebound with the same steel ball bearing. I still love the Vulcan my first London Pattern anvil and use it all the time, but if I'm moving a lot of thicker stock, I turn around and use the Hay Budden, using the same hammer. Both anvils are mounted to tree stumps. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus If I have a lot of thicker stock to move, I walk the 4 steps to the 30 pound Star power hammer.
  25. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
