Empty bottles would be slid on to the branch ends. The Origin of the Bottle Tree Most believe that bottle trees got their roots in the Congo area of Africa in the 9th Century A.D. and that the practice was brought over by slaves who hung blue bottles from trees and huts as talismans to ward off evil spirits. marmal...Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. I'm guessing, from what you have posted so far, you are somewhere in the land of OZ, correct me if I'm wrong. If you are have you seen this yet? OZ roll call - Everything Else - I Forge Iron There are a great bunch of folks there and some may be near you. If you have some pictures of your anvil and base (stand) please post them, we love pictures. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

That radius will be very useful, sharp edges are a detriment to good work. Most smith's will grind more than one radius edges. There are a couple threads about them. Here is but one. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/24740-putting-a-radius-on-an-anvil-edge/ I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

I just use my regular shop vac, I think it's a 5 gallon B&D. Just empty it after every use and change the paper filter as needed. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus -

Looks to be in good shape. All it should need is lubrication and a nice turned wood handle. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus -
A quick google search brought up the event. This should answer your question. We are not supposed to put live links to events, looks to me the swap meet is free to the public. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

I just returned from ringing the anvil in the Celtic garden, to ask for healing light and comfort be sent your way. My experience is refractory cement will not withstand the rapid heating of a gas forge. Refractory Cement is used to stick bricks together. A better floor would be high alumina kiln shelving. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

I solved that problem by taking pictures with my phone as I take something apart. Without them I would be lost. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

Forge Welding resist

I have never preheated the bick, that I use to weld socket seams. It is smaller in diameter than the sockets I have made and doesn't seem to suck the heat from the socket. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus -
I think the three crosses are all joined together to make one hanging piece. I would punch and drift to make each and then the same to join them. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

Cutting the leg to lower the vise should not affect the integrity in the least. I've seen vises that had the legs cut down by using a torch, metal cutting band saw, and one that was cut using the hot cut on the anvil usually with a helper. Most older vises the legs are wrought iron and a hand hack saw will cut them, although that is kinda time consuming and tiring. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Building a Charcoal forge.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks replied to Savlaka's topic in JABOD - Just A Box Of Dirt
The main difference between lump charcoal (not BBQ briquets) and coal/coke is the amount of air blast needed. Charcoal needs a lot less air to get a good hot fire as opposed to coal/coke. My bottom blast forge will work well with both fuels, because I use a hand cranked blower and can control the air blast to match the fuel. I see Frosty and I were posting at the same time, so I should note he is right about the size of the fire pot. Mine is much shallower and smaller in diameter.
