  1. Maybe you should make a hammer or something out of your 250lb Soderfors!
  2. Great job! Your a little ahead of me. I got an itch to make some hammers, and so far i've made a drift from 1 1/8 axle. Just started on the eye punch. Will need to make the tongs. I'm fighting jealousy right now. I don't have a striker so for me it's a fairly big endeavor. Not sure what I'll do for fullering the eye area on a rounding hammer, but I'm determined. Guess maybe I should start with a cross peen. Keep me updated with what u make. I'm right behind you.
  3. Glad to hear it worked out. How high did you drop the bearing from.
  4. All I would change is make the heel a little thicker vertically and a little thinner horizontally. Here a comparison to an actual Peddinghaus.
  5. Before I saw what you said he is asking, I was going to say $250 or less would be a no brainer. For me anyways. As long as the rebound is decent.
  6. Come on guys. Give him a break. I commend him for taking on such a daunting task, and who hasn't ever made something that was just too advanced for your skill level. He obviously isn't done yet. It might turn out great.
  7. ??? Good start. What kind of forge are you using?
  8. Hey I could throw out a couple bible verses that suggest left handed superiority. ...but I better not lest it turn into a "religious discusion".
  9. I generally don't care for paracord handles, but those are sweeeeet! I really like those knives. Eespecially the one in the last pic.
  10. I once got a $750 bow for $200 because it was "inferior"...
  11. I love this forum! It makes me feel so at home to see people post pics of stuff like that. I would be interested in seeing how that cross cut saw shapes up after cleaning if it's worth it. Can you tell if that mattock head is hand forged? That sheath is really cool. Like the wrought iron. I even like the loopy thing. Even if it's a poor weld I just like to see old hand forged stuff. That muzzleloader thing is neat to. I think anything that's left handed is cool.
  12. Next week, you might live an hour and a half away from where you do now. Whatcha gonna do bout that?
  13. My scap yard sells copper tubing, screwdrivers, and bikes, for all the same price. Nice spoon BTW.
  14. Wow! That would be awesome! I'm praying that you'll get it. Would he be interested in 2 apprentices?
  15. Welcome Tom! I started with stock removal knives too. What you just listed sound like some good goals, but don't get ahead of yourself. Start small. It is much more enjoyable to make a good S hook than a terrible knife. Once you get hammer control down, making knives will become fun instead of a miserable waste of time. I wish I had someone tell me that when I first started. Actually, I did but I guess I didn't listen.
  16. I wood be good at puns if my brain wasn't so tired from keeping a log of everything. I guess I'll stick to rot iron.
  17. Saw one on Craigslist a while back for $400.
  18. I'm exited for you! Just make sure they use plenty of bubble wrap.
  19. That's a great deal! How long did it take for that anvil to show up?
  20. I guess you could call me an English teacher if you're talking about English anvils. Who ever said it had to mean English talkin'?
  21. I tried to think of a good pun to ad to this, but i'm stumped.
