  1. Last time I got coal, I was talking with the owner and he mentioned having a lot of old metal wheels he was willing to sell. He said he didn't have a use for them but he hated to just scrap them. I'll have to give him a call and see what all he has.
  2. It's good news they caught it early. She is on the list.
  3. That's a great rack idea Dick. I will be making one as soon as I get my hands on a wheel. I know just the place to get some wheels too.
  4. Hmm. I seem to have heard this warning before about people making "wall hangers". You may know it is one but what about the next guy or your great grandson. Same goes with buying the cheap stuff. Anyway, My guess would be that the pin that held the blade in broke and is bent in the hole keeping the blade from seating in the handle. Just a guess. I have broken or taken some cheaply made blades apart and they are scary dangerously made.
  5. Just wire wheel it and use it. there is no value but what you can use it to make. As an antique it is beat, but as a functional anvil/tool, it looks like you can use it and make money with some practice using it. Don't get hung up on looks, Get forging.
  6. Since being under the weather I have been watching lots of metal detecting/ relic hunting videos. I just had to forge something tonight. Here is my first design on a hand trowel/ scraper that I plan on trying out. It's rough but should work out. Forged from leaf spring.
  7. Are you planning on having the table with the folded parts up? As in, is the table upside down in the second picture? The base/legs should be fine, but as you said you can try it out and see.
  8. I like 2" black pipe for the bottom blast tuyere. Then again, that's what was suggested to me from the get go, and what I have used and all I've ever needed. I first used charcoal in my forge until I found a source for coal.
  9. I practically do live on a cliff. At least a hill. I have had some scary moments moving things. The only level space is the driveway at the house and In the house and In the shop. The gas meters down in my yard outside of my shop have had some close calls to being wiped out. I can imagine the terror of seeing something you are moving on wheels heading towards a highway.
  10. That's a neat crane Robert. I don't have any level ground to be able to use anything like that. With your score there, the hardest part it actually organizing it all. I have bins and boxes full of automotive bolts, clips and parts that slowly over the years get organized. It gets used too. One way or another.
  11. Um. Side blast or bottom blast forge?
  12. There is a good thread on rr spikes and what can be made from them. https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/44160-the-handy-rail-spike/#comment-456208
  13. Those are some really nice looking hammers. Well done. Like Thomas said, you could do well selling them. Take a look at some other hammer designs in those fields of work he mentioned. Also auto body. Keep at it.
  14. Very sad. Thoughts and prayers for them JHCC.
  15. The shovel makes for a great tongue! Just needs a better tail.
  16. It'd be a bit odd telling people I'm 1.3.24
  17. just to say, were it my anvil I would radius the edges a bit in certain spots. It's a bit scary to do to a new anvil but just don't go extreme. I would say to research it a bit before doing anything. It's easy to take material off but not so easy to put it back.
  18. That's a good score Brian. A friend got me some drops from a spring shop a while ago. One piece wound up the spring for my beefy post vise. New steel is always better. Hopefully they can get back to you on what it is to save the guesswork and experiments.
  19. The term you are searching for I believe is "Bolster plate". Nice work on your first completed tongs.
  20. Another Beauty with fine lines! A double locker at that. Perfection.
