  1. Thanks D.C. I make some rough stuff believe me. I try to refine techniques and the work as I go. Seeing what I can improve on helps me do just that. Also I see others amazing work and work towards getting there one day.
  2. I would think specifics would count in the question, like what steel and what does it call for in the heat treat. I don't know much but I know specifics count. And if Stormcrow was guiding you on what he had more experience with I would ask him. Hope it works out. And yeah, 2 tempering cycles already? Doubt bad bad things would happen. Haven't heard the dunking in water thing after the tempering cycle tho. I'll have to re read what I've read.
  3. On a small scale you could check out fork forging videos. I agree it would be interesting to watch. I might have to try it some time because to me that would be even more interesting then watching it.
  4. I just picked up even more files at a second hand store. Half were in really good shape. Bundles of 4-5 files for about $2.50 a bundle. Two even had nice handles. I'm always on the hunt.
  5. Thanks 1776. I have a leather stitching awl somewhere lol. I'll have take a trip up to Tandy leather this weekend. I know I don't need much to make one. If it's like other things I'll probably buy extra just to save a trip later. JHCC, I read on here somewhere ( really can't recall the post) that using sand paper or grinding before using a file is bad for the file since the abrasive material can embed in the knife so when you move to the file it will wear on your file. Just something that stuck in my mind. I have better files and junky files, and start with the junkies ones when something is rough, or I had hit it with a grinder first. Just something to think about.
  6. Looks like a beautiful place there. Had to go look more up on the Betel nut tree. Always something new to learn.
  7. If I were to make grapes, I'd just lay out ball bearings in the shape and weld them in a bunch from the back side.
  8. I'd like to see management physically prove that the tool is safe and that it was just employee carelessness. Put one in their hands and have them use it
  9. Great picture ( all of your pictures are great) what is that tho? Hollowed out piece of wood?
  10. Shows more to me Gergely. I still wouldn't want to make all of those leaves and flowers . I can't wait to see what you come up with tho.
  11. Thanks JHCC, that is a simple and easy jig. And Very useful. Templehound, that is high praise for where I am at. Thank you kindly. I blame looking at your awesome designs. I'm a quick learner. Only took 3 years of reading and researching. Thank you for sharing your work and for all others that post good info here.
  12. Thanks. Yeah it really helps in making the knife look more professional. I even could have done better if I had left myself a little more meat for the blade pre HT.
  13. Have you taken a look in the solid fuel forge section? Lots of possibilities. I use a brake rotor for my forge pot. Roughly 8" diameter by 2-3" deep is good. Rotors can be had cheap or free since there are cars all around the world that need them changed here and there and what they take off is scrapped.
  14. That's just what I would use with what I've seen. I'm sure there are others with great ideas on it. More then one way to do things.
  15. I need to refresh on terminology a but but this helps in getting the line even. I mainly went by eye getting the bevel to match side to side. I did a bit per side so I could keep an eye on it and not go over. The jig is shown in Steve Sells book along with other great info. ( which I need to go back over. )
  16. Could just use clay and shape it to what ya want/ need.
