  2. don't see any adjustment for size of roast or whatever it's for
  3. so which is lighter....a pound of feathers or a pound of lead???
  4. I had a 1500 lb block of steel I got free from the scrap yard......was going to make it an anvil but found I didn't have the equipment nor could find anyone that did. I used it to straighten some stuff and a place to pile stuff on......years later, I was happy someone took it away.....
  5. patience....reminds me of the two vultures sitting on a cactus.......
  6. one reference source: http://books.google.com/books?id=aFJFuouzTEAC&pg=PA69&lpg=PA69&dq=bethlehem+steel+metals+color+coding&source=bl&ots=sCXIkxmC44&sig=nGndcPAnL-eRrBoD_Iy1SH7az3Y&hl=en&sa=X&ei=rveYU52mKsuPyATf04DQDQ&ved=0CFYQ6AEwCg#v=onepage&q=bethlehem%20steel%20metals%20color%20coding&f=false
  7. if rebar is okay.......than 5/8" would be dandy for the prongs........drill holes in the flat bar back piece to fit the rebar prongs and plug weld from the back side......use a ball pein hammer to texture the back bar and after clean up will look great........texture of rebar and textured back plate. My two cents...... :)
  8. .....I wuz gonna say..........aww, never mind
  9. methinks I bought a hammer from someone......name excapes me.......that was S7, kinda a nice rounding hammer, but it was machined, not forged.
  10. axes....always seem to think axes when I see them fine blades........... :)
  11. ya can't beat nugget coal out of the Sewell Seam in West Virginia......look it up
  12. if the eye hole ain't quite right, don't ya just use it in the opposite hand ??........just askin'....
  13. stainless steel 1/4" no more than 3/8" dia rod bent on 60 degree angles. nice tones, no heat needed, only a vise to hold the stock while bent cold by hand.
  14. I have solid fuel and propane forges. I use whichever one best fits the task at hand (or my mood) and forge away.......I use 100 lb propane tanks or coke. Oh, forgot to add that cost of fuel gets lost in the rush of things. YMMV
  15. I concur with starting out on a solid fuel forge...gasser can come later.......however, I'm interested in your "girly hammer", not sure I've seen one. Got a pic?
  16. S7 could work, but forget the D2 for a hammer. IMHO 4340 would be ideal, but 1045 - 1060 is good, or 4140, O1, CAT track pins are great if you can get them. It all depends on your skill level and what you want the hammer to do. Heat treating is the more important part rather than the steel. ....just sayin'...
  17. ya know steve, the same thing happens with chicken.......... :)
  18. g'day blokes and welcome aboard......there is a whole thread of Aussies on this site. Depending on the time, there are more Aussies on here than Yanks.

  21. High gloss purple of course........ :)
  22. From the album: rthibeau

4 -5 foot snow drifts in the yard and in front of the shop
  23. I fire up the woodstove to get the shop warm, then a shovelfull of the coals from the stove go into the firepot, cover with coke/coal and add air........Voila!!
