My 2 cents, The spring can be replaced, rebent. Might just need a good cleaning/oiling. The ring is a cone washer it's supposed to be loose. Looks better than my first one.(5 in 70 lbs)Paid $60 for it. 2nd one missing the leg piid $30 for it. Price depends on where you are and how often you see them. Ken

No gas flux core welding
Just a little info. Gas is clean, flux is messey but deep, Flux with gas is clean and deep If you have the heat Built motion theaters for yrs. All the heavy weldments were done at 450 amps with flux core and 75 25 gas mix. Think a 8 ton assembly changinging directions in 1/10 of a sec. Flux self peeling. Looked like heliarc. Ken.

Welding Certification?
There was even a ebay listing some time ago. Send plates and fee get cert in mail. Used to have a bunch for military, aircraft, nukes ect. Retake every 6 mos, every material, every pos. Have worked turbine shops where I asked about certs. Was told they were already on the board. Went for a test one time, asked the tester how long he had been welding. Answered "Never have welded took a class to do this" AWS or shop tests are the only ones I will take now. Ya get what ya pay for. Ken

Benefits of being a blacksmith
Bully, Love it getting paid with coin of the relm. Wish my neighbors did that. I get a lot of the old farm stuff Cast iron. Had one oldtimer with a OLD massey tractor. Man was told no parts in stock in the world, Just buy a new tractor. He is 78yrs old. Told him no warrenty but I would try. Never came back. Either it worked or he is dead. Had a nother old gal wanted her husbands aluminum cane welded. He has oldtimers and kept changing the lenght( he fall) Spent some time to rivit it in place (might need to change it later) She starter looking in her purse. Said I don't have much. Asked how much do I owe. Nada. Ken

Resale license
In todays economy the town, county, state and irs is after every penny they can get. At 59yrs of age the Co I worked for went belly up. No jobs around so I opened a small welding/fab shop at home. Have used a tax service for 45+yrs. Now state wants to audit cause I am showing a loss. DUH the economy is in the tank and I'm not suposed to be. How come you spent all that money on equipment. Full welding/fab/CNC cutting/blacksmithing shop. Guess I need to just retire. Joint gross last few yrs under 30K go figure. Also I don't use my tax # pay tax on everything. Be careful my brothers. Very Nice Railroad track anvil
I just gotta jump in here. You can do anything up to a 1/2 " or larger just takes longer. I forged all sorts of stuff on a 37 lb track using a O/A torch. Don't fall into the" got to have a 300lb anvil to work on. I have a 174 lb a 142 lb a 88 lb and a 60lb fisher I still use the 37 lb track. I have been told you need at least a 4 lb hammer. HS I have a dozen under 2 lb a few over that. If it works for ya don't worry about names, prices or sizes. If ya can"t do it with a 2lb hammer on a 37lb track ya probably can't do it on a 1300lb fisher with a 5lb hammer. Ken

Dad Scored today
If the weight marks and serial number are on the front foot its probably a Trenton. My Hay Buddens all have the weight mark on the side serial on the foot. Looks like a great one. Price just depends on how much ya want it. Was offered $150 for my first. A 37 lb track anvil with everything on it. He wanted it real bad. But no sale. Spent way too much time on it. 1 day after finishing it I had a real anvil. 1 week later I had another. Still use the little one. Ken

Rust on anvil, How to remove?
Quickist way is a purple scotch brite pad with a helthy squirt of your favorite WD PB or Kroil. Less than a minute to clean a 175 lb trenton. And every bit of the face is clean. Ken
