HELP ME I.D. MY ANVIL, AGE AND MAKER
Sask. Neither of my H-Bs are stamped solid wrought warrented. After 1908 H-Bs were made with a solid tool steel top. Most I have seen have a 3 numbers stamped oppisite side from the logo just about even with the hardy. Ken

Don't need no stinking windshield. Ya never rode with the Fla lovebugs or the Conn gypsy moth caterpillers. Had a bro stop by one time was ready to call 911. Said he topped a hill and hit a million of them hanging inna road.(there 2" long and a 1/4" thick and taste like ***%%%@ Ken

When Jobs Go Bad.
As an OLD Conn yankee here is my 2 cents worth. Ya make one it costs X. ya make 10 and if ya haven't larned to make them easier(cheaper) ya need to find other work. Most times ist one is tougher than the 10th. So If ya made money on the first and anymore make more money I don't see a problem. Ken

When Jobs Go Bad.
OK Iam not gonna add one of mine. Haven't been to one supplyer for a while. I noticed a new set of stair rails. When I asked the reply was. Custom order missed the note that the roofing was to be raised 2" Made the stairs too high. Remake but used the stairs to replace the old crappy wood ones to their office. Xxxx happens try to adjust. They did. Ken.

Rail Track Anvil
What most are saying IMHO is simply heaver is better. A 12X12X4 block of 1018 is better than a 12" rail. Don't worry about the curve on the top of the track. Had friends who milled or ground them flat. The surface is harder tham 1/4" down. I will not part with my carved track. It's light(37 lbs) and crowned but its just the thing for some jobs. Do not fall into the gotta have the perfect tools mindset. You will never get there. Use what ya got. Upgrade when ya can. Pass on to other newbies when ya upgrade. Ken

Smithin Magician
Winston, I would think it would depend on what your making. I used 3/8 cause I milled the slots and could only find a 3/8 end mill. Great for cattails and candle holders. Ken

Smithin Magician
Hi. Richard, Why on a stump? Would think it would bounce a lot. I built mine with a large bottom plate. Offset so the die is centered on my anvil. Just a thought for ya mate. Ken

Rail Track Anvil
Ok, Here goes, Ya can carve out a anvil from a RR track. Best advise is stand it up and use the end. I spent the time to carve a 37 lb anvil with a hardy/pritchel/step and horn. It's great if ya wanna do jewelry. Now have real 60 lb 88 lb 142 lb 174 lb anvils. Stand it up and use it till ya can find a better one. Ken

I'd like comments on the condition of this anvil please
I had contacted this seller about his listing. Old lady GAVE him this anvil. He listed with a buy it now of $600. Response was I tore down a shed for her as she had no money. Asked if he was going to split with her. Response was he spent 2 days and fuel. I will not bid on this item. Ken

My "new" 1913 Fisher Anvil
OK, Here I go again. My grandad was a Swedish carpenter who taught me to keep my tools like new. Ya get a classic car. It smokes, its rusty, has dents.(PATINA) Ya gonna restore it or drive it? I am gonna restore it then drive the H__l outa it. Every anvil I get gets sompthing. Work around 13 1" torch cuts or badly chopped up edges NOT for me. Yes I have seen fine work done on a piece of xxxx I woulden't have in my shop. I just don't work that way. If ya can fix it or have it fixed do it. It will stop my grandad spinning in the ground. Ken

What do you think of this anvil repair approach?
EV, Yes I don't even try to repair cast anvils. My post was to add to the cost of modern exotic rods. Fortunatly I have a good stock of OLD Stultz rods. Both underlay and hardface impact resistant with a great color match. I use the cast tig rod for antique restorations. Ken.

"Ding" repair
FE, don't go there. For a yr i had to look at a Frank Zappa Crappa poster every time I used the head. As bad as that was I think a naked zappa grant could/would be worse. A naked anvil I can deal with. Ken
