  1. I wouldn't think it would be a problem. I bought a 88lb H-B last yr without a horn. I drilled and tapped a 3/4hole 2" deep into the break. Did the same with a 3 1/2 X 8 round bar. Screwed in a 4" stud. V grooved and welded. Shaped with O/A .No issues with it at this point. Ken
  2. Rick it looks a lot like my 014 kobelco.HMMM a mini with a auger. Might have to look into that and keep the komatsu 05 for digging. Ubracket to the bucket pih, Bucket lines to run the motor. I would weld mine(easier to align) I have a welding shop and have built a Met kit backhoe. Should be fun. Ken
  3. I also have never seen a serial # on a PW, I have never seen a serial # or weight on any anvil face either. Ken
  4. I also like the black look, I do everything but the face, table and upper half of the horn. I use stove polish stove black. Get it at fireplace store or hardware store. Scrub it on with a fingernail brush Let it dry a bit buff with an old towel. oil the shiney areas. Ken
  5. Just a note, welder are differant, Just cause it says 90 on the plug in or dial don;t mean that is exact amps. Also AC and DC rates are differant. Start low (on scrap) tweek till it burns good for the rod used. Keep notes. Had a neighbor stop at my welding shop. Wanted to know why his welds on his mowers wern't working. He was using 3/32 dc rod and got some 3/16 7018 AC running at the same amps. Ken
  6. My thoughts on this, What and how much are ya cutting. 5 Pieces of 1/4 round or 2 pieces of 1/2 a day or a week Probably woun't require a hard tool. (We are talking HOT iron here) If your doing a lot of cutting harder would be better. I made 2 bought 1 don't use them much at all. Ken
  7. Would depend, Is it 2 peaked roofs or the common peak on the barn with a leanto shed on the leeward side. Also where is the chimmeny in relation to the highst peak? Ken.
  8. Looking at the finish on the pins and on the anvil I would say the pins were put in later. Ken.
  9. Another thing about working on the porch. If its all wood how much flex is there? A friend had a stout plank floor with a crawl space under. Worked him to death till he found a 30 gal drum and filled with sand. Ken
  10. My guild has moved to a craft center. They have a newly built smithy. We are running 5 forges 4 of them are paired back to back. Not sure of the height but thats a lot of forges in a small area. You can put a sheet steel or cement board above the fire if needed. Ken.
  11. Saddleboat, Worse case ya have to heat it and realign it. Did one at a guild meeting a few mos ago. Member brought in a bad one. Went home with a good one. Ken
  12. Win the lottery, outsource to India sit back and count the profits like sooo many mfgrs are doing. Ken
  13. Just gotta ask, Why are you pulling a 35K skid with a 15K truck? If I had to do it I would wrap a chain around the counter weight. Ken
  14. Avadon, Keep in mind that compressor can and will start when it wants to. If you rig an adapter put the compressor on one line. The rest (switchable) on the adapter. That way a tiny air leak won't be a problem. Ken
  15. would be more correct to call it a H BOAKER. He brought german anvils over under his own name as well as trenton. Sharp eye as soon as you said german the name pops right out. Ken
  16. No it can be as thin as the rest. As said earlier a short point leaves less mass at the tip. Have done bunches using 1/4 round. Base gets out to size of a quarter points about 1/8 wide same thickness base to tip. Ken
  17. Glenn, Tried to PM you. Said member cannot receive messages. Ken
  18. Let me think, Great tailgating gone. All blueprints gone. Location gone. New posts almost gone. email for glenn gone. I know the guys are working hard but to me it seems I lose more than I gain. Ken
  19. I think the 3 or 4 leads are for speed not bounce. Ken
  20. Looks like a blue star. Go to millerwelds. Click service. Click manuals. scroll to blue star. Submit, Ken
  21. Hey John. A client gave me a 5 gal pail of old glass bead. I just reuse it till it stops cutting. Will try yo stop by again. Ken
  22. And the master said "when I nod my head hit it hard" Ken
  23. Good pair of slip on boots. Steel toe is better. I quit wearing lace ups yrs ago after dropping a 1/4 in berry in a boot. Went to steel toe engineer boots. Next berry only harmed the guy across the room. Kicked the boot that far only scorched the sock. Ken
  24. If long enough stand the rail on end. If not use it right side up. The top is harder and slightlly crowned. Easier for drawing. Kneeling is for praying standing is for hammering. When ya get OLD the knees will thank ya. Ken
  25. Problem I had using visegrips was the angle. Doing tapers with a quater turn was uncomfortable on the wrist. Ken
