  4. I would second that. Looks like a rough Vulcan about 100lbs. Boat anchor or winter weight. Snows comming. Ken
  5. Stand the beam on end. Weld the disk on top. Set in a bucket of concrete. A piece of 4" round or a cone about 8" long welded to the edge of the disk for a horn. Ken
  6. Inspector should be providing specs not asking for them. Have had a septic system laid out and permitted that was 15ft too close to a hand dug well. Smoking banned in a welding shop(fire hazzard) Another shop had a warehouse fire. After pumping water in for 8 hours(6 inchs deep) He found a butt "at the base of the fire" Not dissing anyone here. Just saying there are the Good the Bad And the Ugly

  8. All my hay buddens have the weight under the logo. All my trentons have/had the weight on the left side of the foot. Ken
  9. Hey Cliff, Don't ya just love the codes there. Left in 75 no thoughts of going back. Creepy how many houses have nat gas piped in? Think snowed in. Power failure. I am about to add a nat gas line. gas logs, gas grill, furnace and perhaps a blown forge. The Generator keeps the lights and puter on. Add the water heater, furnace, water pump stove ect loads it down. No real differance to a large propane tank. Ken

  11. Location, location, condition,condition. Here in the Carolina/Tenn/Ky mountains I average about $1.75 lb for a clean flat anvil. H-Bs and Trentons. How bad do you want? How much can you afford? Supply and demand collectors be dammed. Ken

  15. Just a note, Had a coustomer wanted to build aluminum framer's . Bought a little lincoln 90 amp to weld 11ga alum frames. NO Way Small units are for small projects. My Miller goes from 1.5-460 amps welds what ever I want. Just make sure yours will do the job. Ken
  16. Run it for a while before buying a bulk box. The ones i have braized havent lasted long enough to be worth the effort. Ken

  20. Just a note, Not all the small mig units can do fluxcore. Bought the wife a small mig for yard art planning to set up for fluxcore. welder is hardwired internaly. So no switching polarity. Yeah I could cut and splice. Picked up a nice 180 230volt Hobart as a shop spare. She can use that. Ken

  23. From scratch or kit built? Either can be done IF you have talent, parts source,time and money. Don't forget the add ons. Plasma cutter, big compressor, air dryer, exhaust system, water table ect. I bought a table then spent almost that much again for the rest. About 20K so far. Monkeysmith where are ya? Ken
  24. Heres how I do 4" building posts with 5" plates, Cut square (horiz bandsaw) lay pipe on 1/2" spacers. Hold plate against tube and tack repeat other end you have parallel plates. Ken
