What do you guys think about this unit?
Been welding/fabing over 40 yrs. You get what you pay for. My tig over a grand,Mig over a grand, Plasma over 2 grand. I realize the new inverter stuff is cheaper. If your looking for a hobby level might be OK. Can you get service, Consumables, ect? I bought the wife a mig for yard art. 1 store in 50 miles has tips. NO parts or service, Stick with brand names with support. Ken

Quality Fisher Anvil For Sale: 350 to 375 lbs.
Heres a good one. Neighbor offered his granddads (bought new anvil) in great shape. Welded to a heavy 3legged stand. We drove up past the house past the shed past the barn. Now were into the cow pasture. Stop at a bramble bush. One leg of the stand sticking up.(anvil is on the ground) 13 inch long torch cuts in the face. He says its a Big Blue brand. HuH. Took 3 of us to load it. Cut it off the stand cleaned it found a 150lb Trenton. I own a welding/fab shop so a little welding/grinding was good as new. Now has a new home with a newbe. Owner kept saying its worth a lot. Got it for $1.35lb past it on for $1.50lb due to finding a solid top H-B. Ended up everyone happy. Ken.

Working on my first anvil
Kyle, If you have access to a cutting torch you can rough shape then grind. I replaced a missing horn on my 88lb hay budden that way. I drilled and tapped the round and the anvil for a 3/4 inch stud. Screwed it together.V grooved it.Welded it. torched and ground. Nobody yet has been able to tell which of my 3 was hornless. Click on the user cp and add your location. One of us might be close. Ken

Working on my first anvil
arftist, How much flex do you see in a verticle beam? Yes a horozintal beam flexes. however If a piece of track is OK standing on end.Whats wrong with a beam standing on end. Most of the newbies can't afford 2 H-Bs 1 Trenton 1 Fisher and a track anvil. How much mass is a stump with a disk compared to a disk welded to a beam in a bucket of concrete? Sorry I get cranky after 12 and after a few. Ken

Cross Pein Vs. Straight Pein?
Bottom line is what works for you. Ball pein, cross pein, streight pein, rounding, claw. If it works for ya use it. You wanna drive what I drive, Shoot what I shoot, Drink what I drink. Do what works for you not me or any one else.
