I think Brian accomplished exactly what he was after by starting this thread. Sharing knowledge. Teaching. Getting out to the shop to see for ourselves what happens. Making our own assumptions, then sharing our results thus keeping the learning cycle going. Thanks to all, I gotta head out to the shop to try something!!

Where is the help?
First off, thanks to everyone who contributes. I know your time is valuable. To those that don't have time to do research, maybe they should just try it on their own. I think they will find out it takes a lot less time to research something than it does to figure it out on your own. I guess they just want to be an instant blacksmith. Only thing I've found instant doing this is how you can instantly ruin something you have been working on all day because you didn't do the research on the proper procedure.
