  1. have seen a couple of these. it is as stated earlier from a wheel turning but the engine not going anywhere. usually when this happens some people get pretty upset and the person that caused it gets some time off with no pay.
  2. i went last year for the first time but cant make it this year because of family obligations :( ptree, bad decription, too many guys like you, bibs and grey hair :)
  3. the pads for the heavier machines are completely separate from the rest of the floor. and no heat lines near them, shouldnt be a problem at all. i helped put the pads in.
  4. i would line it and use it. nice catch. cant tell you how old it is but is most likely not a teenager anymore. i had one like that that i carried in my truck when i was shoeing horses in the 70s.
  5. Sorry thats not possible any longer. I gave the lamp to a friend that is battling breast cancer while she was at the fair. just one more thing to think about in the future. thanks
  6. this is the first time I have entered a competition. got a second and i am fine with that. one of the problems that i spotted after it was over is that the lamp shade covers up the hand forged peice that i put on it. i used a 3/16 x 1 flat bar, put a twist in it and put a fishtail scroll on the end. the hole for the lamp assembly was hot punched. i try to incorporate a hand forged piece in all of my lamps. any comments, have at it. dick
  7. nice for your first time. learning curve is starting to grow. keep it up.
  8. if your going to replace the handle just use your smoke wrench. chances are the the balls are on there solid
  9. I call mine "The Spotted Horse Smithy, Lake Effect Forge". Spotted Horse smithy because I can look out the window of my shop and see my daughter's 30 year old appaloosa gelding in a pasture and Lake effect forge because I live 4 miles from the shore of Lake ontario and we get a lot of lake effect snow.
  10. couldnt understand a word of it but they can sure put stuff together pretty fast. thanks frosty
  11. I just talked with Dan on the chat page tonight. He has had a setback in that they have found a new tumor on his spine. He starts radiation next week. It is of a serious nature in that he could get parrilised from the shouldrs down in his words. So I reckon we keep him in out thoughts and prayers. seldom
  12. welcome to the group. if you check the list at the end of the forums there is a listing for groups from oz. your best bet would be to hook up with the closest one. that way you have mentors right there that help you. seldom
  13. nice job paul. i have few to figure out myself
  14. oddtodd, just looked at the map and found richmond. it is fairly close to troy, ohio. looks to be maybe an hours drive. this sept i and a lot of the folks on here will be at the sofa convention. myself i know i am planning a side trip to see your layout before i back home. you may get some other visiters as well. if you can get there to sofa it would be worth you while to go. seldom
  15. i had problems with the supplier i hooked up with regarding leaking acetlene tanks. changed them out 3 times in one year. always around the valve stem. lots of times i use torches while forge or wood stove going so leaking not anything you want. finally got tired of the leaks an took last one back with bad valve stem written on it. they never charged me for the changes but i did switch suppliers. just too dangerous to keep going with the leaks.
  16. oddtodd, first thanks for you service from one vet to another. second that is one neat setup. i could only dream of finding a setup like that. you are very lucky. seldom
