  1. Was hoping someone on here could ID a hammer I have. I found it in a junk store for almost nothing, fit a handle to it and it has become my go to hammer. I find it ideal for everything I do. Looks like an elongated ball peen to be honest. Head has gentle taper all the way to the head, peen is wide and almost flat.
  2. Anyone know of any plans out there for burner design for one of these forges? I have searched here and online and found some discussion and top pics but no drawings etc? Also does anyone know of a USA supplier of chips or suitable substitutes? I have a crap ton of crucible block that' s heavy and tough but I could chip it is needed. Fuel source will be natural gas and I can supply it at any reasonable pressure.

    New stand

I was planning on setting the anvil to one side of the plate and with my simple power hacksaw I could not cut the pipe to the proper angles on both ends. I was also concerned that 3 legs straight up would not give me the stability I wanted. The stand is very stable, with the dirt floor leveling was no problem. The overall foot print is a lot wider than the anvil base, I think that gives it such good footing. the back forms a nice shelf I can set tools etc. The cutout in the center lets me get my leg against the anvil when working on the far side, very comfortable. The top is 1" pate and the legs are 4" pipe There is the backside of the stand, I have plenty of room for tools, and also to mount a work holder if needed

    New stand

New stand for Anvil, made out of odds and ends I have gathered over the years
  5. I think the painted one is a Arm n Hammer. They have distinct horn shape I personally think is ugly. Gives them all away.
  6. What are the prices for those weights listed? Did you get it thru shady grove? Shes beautiful!
  7. I don't bother to paint them, if you use them it wont last very long. I prefer they character they have when I find them. I have used a wire wheel on them in the past. Biggest challenge with large vises is a bench that will hold them up
  8. I just changed one of these out today, the are not very hard, I bend them quite often. Today all it took was an old rotted chunk of wood at the edge of the field. I have a large pile saved up for just such a project. Looking forward to seeing others ideas for them.
  9. I ran the guts out of one making pattern welded steel for one week at a class. In the week I ran it the signal switch failed, the valve for the treadle locked up and some bolts fell out but I cant remember were, it was 2 years back. Also the dies would not stay tight and kept walking out. I was interested in them myself until I got to see and use one, after that I was not impressed.
  10. Looks like alot of machine laying there, to bad about the corner, but it doesnt look like it would affect anything

  12. I will be there with a load of ''good'' junk to tailgate
  13. I have noticed the lean in late anvils only, I love the look, they look fast standing still
  14. My 300 pound hay budden is 5.25" wide and 34" long. Sounds like its around 300 pounds
  15. Looks like the tail is missing How wide is the face? My 500 pound hay budden is 38 inches long
  16. I have read the ring was used for its vibration. The purpose being to move the scale off the anvil surface. Considering if you were working the entire day at the anvil, not having to constantly wipe off scale between heats would be a great benifit. I have tried this out myself and I did see some scale migration but nothing that would be considered keeping it scale free. I imagine with sledging etc it would work to a greater degree as the vibration increased.
