  1. I would think the owner of the fisher norris museum should know the weights. Does he still frequent this site?
  2. Whatever Fisher supplied with them back in 28. I installed the machine myself, I can say it "felt" close to 500 pounds as I muscled it up my makeshift ramp.
  3. I was on board until I saw the adjustable wrench.....LOL. Details on the manufacture?
  4. My current anvil is a Fisher than came with my Blacker. It takes awhile to get used to the thud, but the work gets done all the same.
  5. How much does that Star weigh? There is a-lot of daylight in that frame!
  6. I think its done for the ring but its mostly for looks. I have tried it on everything from 100 pound columbian to a 500 pound hay budden. Did nothing that I could hear. Only sucess I have had was bolting it down tight or sound dampening material underneath like silicone.
  7. I sure did Kevin, thanks a bunch. I was able to get in touch with Jim, he and I were both excited to know there was another machine out there. I have emailed Jack in the past when I was trying to locate information on these hammers before I discovered the manual that came with this one. I plan on reaching out to Steve, it would be nice to hear what he thinks of these hammers.
  8. Very cool machine I like it! Blacker's (A, B and C) are a really handy design. Maybe not as well suited for the same item over and over in production forging, but have the versatility to handle most any job that comes in the door.
  9. The hammer is an 800 pound Williams and White self contained forging hammer, Bates design. I finally got the hammer pulled, transported and set off at my farm. The area it was in did not have enough head room for a traditional crane so I had to use a 60 ton Rotator crane. I must say they are an impressive machine (and priced accordingly). The hammer and anvil weigh a hair over 30000 pounds combined. For reference I am 6 feet tall. If anyone is contemplating a similar move let me tell you its not for the faint of heart! That said I'm glad I did it.
  10. Daniel Cauble has a 200 pounder for sale in your neck of the woods.
  11. Nice building, I have my forge area in a 9x12 horse stall and that includes a coal forge and a power hammer. Unless you are making gates etc more than one step out of the triangle is just wasted heat.
  12. That would make one heck of a paper weight! On a more serious note, the design of the large vise above would lend itself well to being fabricated from plate.
  13. Truly is Blacksmiths Paradise at Mr Koch's place
  14. I always figured the USA industry was prone to scrapping out the shops when newer technology came along
  15. Hows the blades look?? They are usually not cheap if you can find them
