August 31, 20196 yr Well, this one just wouldn’t stop calling to me.... Its a small 70lbs anvil I saw at the Amish store . I put an offer on it & my wife and I left the shop to hit a few more junk-tique stores. After lunch I got the call saying the offer was accepted. So that makes number 4... I think I should probably sell the Railroad track anvil I started with . No makers mark is visible. Guess I’ll spend some time with the “Big Book” looking for clues.

August 31, 20196 yr Back at the RV Park I was able to get better photos on the picnic table. Thats not the horn of a cast iron Harbor Freight anvil, but as mentioned I’m lost as to what company leaves those machine markings. The sweep of the waist (hour glass shape) in the head on photo I was sure would have helped ID it but I got nothing so far. I need to get it on a scale as I don’t think it’s a full 70lbs.
September 1, 20196 yr Billy, isn't SOFA still selling good smithing coal to members? Also there is almost always someone selling good coal at Quad-State; I try to bring a couple of bags home every time I go---and it's a 1500 mile trip back with it! If I was still living only 2 hours away I'd take and fill my pickup!

One of the nice things about living in Ohio is that they are within driving distance.
September 1, 20196 yr Well in the last 25 years or so I have been going to Q-S, a number of different folks have sold coal on site; some years more than one dealer!

September 2, 20196 yr Well, my local dealer has really good stuff (bituminous coal) this go round. Consistant size and burns great. I had considered stocking up. Will have to wait till he opens again.
September 2, 20196 yr One of the benefits of being a member of the Saltfork Craftsmen is access to quality coal. I am certainly grateful for that and Byron filling my barrels with his excavator. The only problem I have in regards to coal is getting the barrels off my trailer.
September 2, 20196 yr I do not know about Quad-state, this year will be my first. 24 days 23 hrs 24 mins and 9 sec. I have only been to SOFA once. However i have some mental issues from the Army and i do not do well in unfamiliar places so i was not there long. I am however excited about going to Quad state this year, been looking forward to it. If i can get it, going to load down the old GMC till the front wheels come off the ground. (put a half ton of fire wood in a little Ford Ranger once, that was an adventure driving back to the house.) Well, i just looked them up. Think i may have to take a trip next weekend up to this Yoder's place yall speak of. About a 2 hour drive it looks like.

September 4, 20196 yr All free from the metal bin: 3 shafts, a weird homemade flat hook bracket thing on a chain, a bunch of 12" nails, a clamp, and a can of bolts up to 1" dia.

September 5, 20196 yr Buffalo Climax blower on the stand, Champion 40 with the forge. The vise has 5 1/2 inch jaws. I've started the soaking to free the screw but it looks good. Missing the mount and spring, no big deal. Tongs and round, square, and hex stock. All for $150. I didn't think that was too bad. The bucket of horseshoes and spikes I brought home from SW MO after the weekend at my parents. The disc blade too.
September 5, 20196 yr One of my coworkers and his son clean out abandoned storage units for the scrap metal. He is watching for blacksmith equipment for me. He gets better than scrap price and I get a pretty good deal. There was a 147 pound Peter Wright in the unit but I think he is going to hang onto it.
