Frosty
Hey gang: Deb's going in for some surgery Tuesday morning and I'd sure appreciate a little help for her. It should only take a few hours and I'll be bringing her home but I don't like to take chances I don't have to. So, if she can get some prayers for successful surgery and a quick recovery we'll sure appreciate it. Thanks everybody. Frosty The Lucky. Frosty
Thanks bunches surgery went well and she's home getting over the anesthetics. We have another drive to Anchorage tomorrow for a follow up. Being her primary care giver I've been pouring over the instructions and doing my job diligently. So far so good, no complications like fever, swelling, excess drainage, etc. She's allowed to be grouchy and call me for her every whim. Perhaps the best indication I've seen has been her cracking a couple jokes. Laughs are good if you're feeling sore. Thanks gang. Frosty The Lucky. Frosty
Thanks gang. Deb's doing better almost by the hour. Tue night she was one miserable girl till we talked to the doc and Doc discovered Debs list of meds were necessary and OKed her to continue her normal meds. I know Deb listed her meds four (4) times but evidently nobody read the list or the reasons. <sigh> Anywho, Wed, we drove back into Anchorage for the followup and everything is healing nicely. Oh without revealing more of this that Deb wants I can tell the little story of how we came to talking to her doctor at 10:30 pm Tue night. There are a couple drain tubes and collection bulbs I get to empty and log every 2 hours. Well, I went up at 10:00 to check Deb and when I looked at the bulbs one was empty and there was a stain where it was leaking under the bandage. Father used to teach Red Cross 1st. aid classes and I got to be bandaged boy so many times I didn't need a class except for the certificate. Then there's Dad's business, metal spinning involves fast moving sheet metal and shavings at intimately close range so spinners are no strangers to blood, their's and other's. By age 10 I could control arterial bleeding, clean and butterfly bandage DEEP cuts, splint and restrain broken bones and dislocations. Where, you're probably wondering, is the point of that little side track. The point is I'm no stranger to the sight of and working through blood and Deb wasn't bleeding. It wasn't a 1st. aid situation but I was rattled a whole lot more than I thought, a WHOLE LOT more. I missed the obvious, the seeping tube was kinked at the collection bulb and I missed it completely. I was talking to the surgeon trying to get across that we were collecting a steady 10 cc /hr and suddenly there's nothing in the bulb but a stain that sure looked to me like the missing 10 cc of fluid. Deb wiggled the bulb and I actually say a big fat drop squirt into the bulb, problem solved! The up side to the whole scary episode was dragging the surgeon out of bed after a long trying day. Before I let her hang up I had Deb ask her about her normal meds. Things like fibro mialgia and restless leg syndrome don't take a holiday because a NURSE says you can't take outside meds! The doctor had NEVER been asked, a NURSE was making the decision without consulting the DOCTOR. Medical professionals, ARGHHHHH! Anyway, 5 mins talking to the DOCTOR got all but one med cleared and Deb was out of pain and asleep in less than 45 minutes. Anyway, Deb's perky, and feeling pretty well for not being allowed to move around much. Don't tell the nurse <snicker> but Deb's making bathroom trips on her own now. <shifty eyed conspiratorial grin> She'll be up and doing laps on the tread mill in a few days. She's one tough gal. Uh, I think that's all for today. I'm feeling a lot more relaxed, even checked E-mail and heck I'm skimming the fora. It's a good day. Frosty The Lucky.
