Buzzkill, I think I have the same understanding that I do. 1776, You may still have failure or warpage. it's part of the game. We don't know the specifics of your blade as far as hammer technique and such. if you want real opinions Post pictures of what you have. quality pictures. people here want to help others. but we need to know specifics. I will say I'm no knife maker but I have researched and have seen enough posts to say that we need to see more. what Kind of oil are you using? How thick is the blade? how long is the blade? How "rough" is the grinding? How thin is the edge? what is the size of the oil container you are using?....................................................................... what I am getting at is If you want advice, Please be specific. The veteran knife makers here are awesome, but #1 you have to do some research, #2 be specific.

My thought as well Dave. The shock inside the strut has oil inside and all warnings on them state contents under pressure. I don't mess with shocks. The risk is not worth the reward. If the mechanic had a spring compressor it would have been best for him to disassemble them. be safe, potential harm/death/damage is not worth scrap, and I doubt it would cost more then $10. For a mechanic to disassemble them.

I had a post vise encased in concrete just like that. I freed it with a sledgehammer and gave it to a friend. cant help much on info but free it and use it.

That will be the clean way to do it or just cut through with a cutoff. I have a bunch of critters in the works. Some are waiting for that right part to come along and some for motivation/inspiration. There's a cat like critter that has been lounging on the back of my welding table or on the shop floor for some time now lol. I have feelers out for more bicycle chain and it's looking promising. That stainless conveyor mesh is great for grills. I know someone who used a big piece for a half 55 barrel grill. They gave me a piece of it as well. Those other bigger chains sound fun.

Most if not all parts to make a forge like that can be sourced cheap if not free. It is a little easier to assemble if you have a welder but can be done without as well without much effort. Going through the solid fuel forge section and reading the pinned posts and going through the rest should give you a good idea of how simple it can be.

More like timing chain. It has smaller pins and the chain break can't clamp on it or pop the small pins.

Welcome aboard Northland73. Sounds like you have an idea. Next you plan. There are many ways to build a small coal forge. Find what will best work for you and what you plan to make. If you are like us at all, once you start you'll be hooked.

Here is the start of an Armadillo. last night I forged the claws and started the ears out of pipe. tonight I started assembling the head. still a long way to go and I really underestimated how much bicycle chain I had. I will have to hunt down more. The legs will be valve springs. the rest of the head is a steering u joint and some large valve keepers and some sort of cutter blade. More to be added there as well. I have some tin to shape so that I can weld the chain from the backside for the body. I will cross my fingers that it turns out well.it helps that I picked up a chain buster in my travels. tho it dosnt work on the gear chain I plan on using for the joints in it's mid section.

Refound this " strange to me" horse shoe that followed me home from an auction or something years ago. Made by Phoenix I guess and has DRAFT 4F at the tip. What kind would this be? I'd guess for a draft horse. It's about 6 3/8" long and 5 3/8 wide.

51Papy, it takes practice. They take me some time to make. I have made at least 17 now and the way things are going I will have a lot more to make. Good luck with yours. Be sure to post your efforts.

If you have a welder I would think you could cut a piece of pipe the size you want the sweep to be and cut a section in half and weld it to other stock on the sides and to a base to use as a swage shape.
