  1. Yup, it won't get wasted. I generally stick with old junk but it said Pittsburgh on it and was cheap enough. It will still get used. I also agree with respecting the good stuff.
  2. Sometimes we just need to take a moment to unwind or we might wind up frayed. JHCC, it's a good start. I finished the 6 roses last night. It was snowing pretty heavily and just as I was taking a break after clear coating them the power went out. At least it let me finish them. I walked carefully to the shop door in the dark, knowing there was an anvil horn pointed my way, and got my flashlight. Power was still off this morning when I left for work. If it is still off when I get home I will really be wishing I had got one of my champion 400 blowers finished and back together.
  3. Aus, he looks good and angry! Nice job forging out his tail. I like the forged out claws. Is that Harrington on the side? On a side note, I was at harbor freight and they had 36" pipe wrenches for $23.usd. They had Pittsburgh on them ( the city I'm near) I couldn't resist a try at another tyrannosaurus. Unfortunately in an attempt to forge out the tail I found out the handles are cast iron and crumbled. Oh well. It could still make a large dragonfly.
  4. Uh... Keep on making stuff and selling it and... Yeah.
  5. I don't see any reason a square rivet wouldn't work perfectly as long as it is set properly. I used a square Mortise and tenon in the horse shoe wine glass holder. (Wanted to test a square punch I made) Hmm... Less likely to twist... might just be better. Ok, ok. No jealousy. There is nothing so far that I haven't been able to do on my 127lb. Trenton that I have needed to. It's just want, need, Better. eventually I'll get what I want lol. Right now I have what I need. That's a beaute tho.
  6. Frosty, how about to test ones Mettle. Ya know I looked that up and found out that it isn't metal. It's mettle. Hmm... It is said it is a variant spelling. Marc, well stated.
  7. Gergely, that is really nice! Tho. Now I have anvil envy....
  8. What BigGun said. And they all have the most perfect multifunction blade shape and I'd love to own one.. doubt I could afford one tho... TH, do you have a web site? could you PM me it if you do? I'm dying with curiosity. I love the blades you post.
  9. Nice work LBS. JHCC, is that for punching/chiseling? here is progress on the 14th roses. Just have to weld up some stuff. Then clean up. A couple need mailed out so I need to finish tomorrow.
  10. Lol. Welcome aboard. Yeah, I know that feeling. I wonder if we could get Glenn to do up a shirt with that. I'd buy 5 and wear them to work every week day.
  11. Another consideration is your budget. What can you afford to spend on materials? And like Thomas mentioned, can you weld? What tools do you have to work with? looking through the solid fuel forge section may get you some ideas. Start with the pinned posts.
  12. That could be infinite on design. A friends father took the nylon sleeved rope and would feed strong wire through the center then form them into standing wine bottle holders similar style to the ones above.
  13. Those look great Gergely! Its not cheating, it's using what you have to your advantage, and that's just smart thinking.
  14. But there is only a drop left! You are supposed to test it with a full bottle to see if it holds the weight, so buy two bottles next time. I need to make some of these. I did one recently using some horse shoes but I like these.
  15. Just some more rose progress. I prefer to do 3 at a time but am attempting 6 in stages. All ready for the torch and pliers now. Then leaves welded on and thorns welded.
  16. Again, the site is self correcting. Bad information is corrected by good or proper information. Leave it to Glenn to go through the other sites and give detailed examples, not just throw out that they are garbage. I try to keep my mouth shut and listen ( or read ) to learn more. This site works. This site helps many people in good ways. Don't bash it, suggest improvements. I don't know where I would be ( in many ways) without it. And I'm constantly learning more. If you can't learn something here every day just by new posts and the replies, you are not paying attention. You would have to try to be that ignorant.
  17. Kevin, That's the main thing, that they work. Tho. My goal is to make them work and look good eventually. ..... Practice.... and if my functional practice helps others get a start, that's all the more satisfying. Or I can use them till I make better ones.
  18. I'll just throw this out there. I am practically computer illiterate. And have found most anything I have looked for here. Seems fine to me. Also I knew squat before coming here just a few bits and pieces, and have been learning "Good" information here Continuously. As Glenn has mentioned before, this site is self correcting. I might not know what a "good" format is but I "with no "real" forum experience" can find the info I need here just fine. I'm not paying the bills for this forum yet I've gained so much from it. Don't run away because someone got offended by what you said. Do what Glenn said and offer suggestions to him in a pm or via email. Many people gain a lot from this site as it is. If you have ideas to improve it state them, don't just insult it and walk away.
  19. Frank, those are mind blowing. I'd love to see all of the details. Even the one close up picture is keeping me busy. WOW.
  20. I have seen a picture on here of one that someone purchased that had been welded to the base. Why would you want to or need to. I wouldn't weld an anvil down. Easier to move it. And no real benefit in my opinion since they can be mounted very sturdy with out welding it.
  21. Thanks for reposting the pictures Gergely! I'll have to try these.
  22. Condolences and prayers for the family.
