  1. I drive this occasionally, but this past weekend we were using it for a chuckwagon cookoff.
  2. those are real nice Jakob, a benchmark for some of use to achieve. All of your stuff has been great to see, thanks for the photos.
  3. Really nice, it sure is fun and helpful to get some time with a master.
  4. Timmy, go look under Alchemy and Formulas, there are several threads on this subject there. Its where I started to look.
  5. That is really nice, clean looking. Good on you.
  6. Thats pretty neat, thanks for sharing it.
  7. The shop has taken a detour to woodworking this week. The anvils are getting double duty. One day I hope the anvils grow up so I can't lift them so easy :)
  8. Rhett, I get alot of ideas from other guys. I am just starting out in this craft and learn something every day on IFI. I do appreciate the guys sharing their projects.
  9. nice Rhett, thanks for sharing. Great ideas there.
  10. Nice stuff hilts, and like Frosty said, making things for the wife is good medicine! I give all my "acceptable" prototypes to mine and it goes well to get the first ones.
  11. very nice, will you forge weld the leaves together?
  12. There has to be some real nice way to forge a stand for it, and use the jug for ???
  13. Scuba, I just took mine apart a week ago to clean it up and get it working. The collar you point out is on a round shaft with a milled flat where the set screw should lock into. Might try some localized heat ( from a torch tip ) on the collar to expand and break the rust bond, and tap it off?
  14. How about just a hammer bevel along both edges, make it look worked but classy?
  15. I spent 6 days with Frank a couple weeks ago. I would reccomend anyone wanting to learn some techniques to go to Frank's school. He is a great traditionalist and historian as well. When the man works hot iron, there is never a wasted move. He makes it easy. Frank, thank you very much for taking the time and effort to share your experience and knowledge. Vince Smith
  16. Sid has a good video on youtube pouring babbit on a LG
  17. That is beautiful. What an inspiration.
  18. My first projects , inspired by contributors to IFI. The larger one on a base I made for my neighbor, a rancher and Methodist minister's 80th birthday a month ago. It is mounted with a traditional mortise and tenon joint from 3/4" sq stock and 1/2" plate base. A little brass tint brushed on the simulated wood grain. I just spent the past week with Frank Turley, so you can bet my projects will improve immensely. One of the best things I've ever spent a week at. What a wealth of knowledge the man has.Split cross on base.bmp
  19. If I was able to sell my PW 105#, I'd get one of Fontaninni's anvils. I have seen the one that Frank Turley uses, its a beautiful tool.
  20. Dan, you have got a good start, I am new to this also. I have gotten so much good information from this site, alot of great smiths on here share their knowledge and experience generously. Its alot of fun to read thru IFI, check out the "pages" tab or the "alchemy" tab for references. Keep on having fun. And if you get a chance, spend some personal time with one of the masters. Vince
  21. Be safe Pugh, it came thru here yesterday. Amarillo got 17" of snow.
