JHCC
Nice work, everyone! I spent some time reconfiguring my hammer rack, both expanding its capacity and improving access to the tools. Still more to be done, but a good step forward
Mothman_c3w
Daswulf, yes you could call that a broom loom. To be honest, I do not know the proper name. I have been calling it a broom tying spindle or a kick winder. I built it without any plans after watching a few broom making youtube videos. Les, those handles on your hatchets are stunning. Tiger maple?

TWISTEDWILLOW
Mothman that broom is stellar!!! JHCC, I like your hammer rack, I need to build something similar for my smithy
Scott NC
I love that broom too. Looks very high quality to me. Billy, maybe you could make a heavey duty hammer rack out of leftover sucker rod?

That’s why I’m building a larger capacity rack: one’s hammer supply will expand to fill the space available.

The tomahawk handles are curly maple. Das, thanks for the compliment, your work and advise, along with many others on this site, has given me the ability to be able to learn this craft and to be able to complete my projects. Les L
I’d save the sucker rod for projects needing a higher carbon steel and use hot rolled mild steel, or other low carbon, for the rack
TWISTEDWILLOW
I can get sucker rod buy the truck load around here pretty cheap or free, it’s all over the place,
Les L
That’s the opposite for me, in that case I’d use it as needed
TWISTEDWILLOW
A lot of people use it for fencing and working corals around here so all I gotta do is call up all the local mobile welders an ask around for leftovers after a job get completed, and if I needed a full stick they usually have various sizes of sucker rod at the feed stores,
SHC
Ain’t worked in the shop in a week, but it looks like I’m getting famous at work.
TWISTEDWILLOW
Just finished up a poker, half inch square stock, forge welded end I wanted to try out this new mystery coal I drug home a few weeks ago forge welding and it did pretty good, It got it hot enough I shot molten metal and flux everywhere, burned my hand, shouted language the clergy don’t know and dropped the hammer in the middle of welding it…so I guess it will work out good! lol it is taking me some getting used to it doesn’t burn like my other stuff, produces ash and more clinker, and it’s not sticky when it starts to coke, it won’t make a volcano/cave, but it gets hot an will weld! Looks good. The challenge on a poker like this is not over-thinning the unwelded section just above the weld, and it looks like you did a decent job with that. Very nice twist, too
TWISTEDWILLOW
Lol, but what if ya ain’t using tongs?
JHCC
Fair point. My student Eva came over and finished the forging on her first knife. And I made a spatula from some 1/2” round stainless: Apart from a little touch-up of the edges, this is as-forged.
TWISTEDWILLOW
You must be a pretty good teacher JHCC! That spatula looks pretty slick to me!
FatBadger
Thank you all for the positive feedback. We got started fairly early for Sunday. Then we moved to some San Mia. But we used a cutoff from a box of junk from (Vegas Forge) 5 lb. box for our core. We need to fold next weekend and stack with 15N20 in the middle for a little pop. (left the cutoff - right at San Mia 1095 mix) And tongs and fat shop dogs. Wow that's an Awesome spatula.
