Blacksmith Jim
125# Peter Wright in decent shape. I purchased it for 350$ (or there abouts) about 2 years ago. Although I think I would have to include the fact that I had to drive 3.5 hours one way to pick it up. So it also cost me a day of time and gas for 7 hours of driving :)

BlackCrowMetalsmith
I bought a 150 pound Vulcan for $400 this year. That seems to be around the average dollar/pound ratio for my area, and the anvil is in near mint condition.

bruce wilcock
the anvils in the smithy were ether given me when i started , or were my fathers and uncles,so i cant help . I have 3 anvils outside in the yard and they were paid for 2 in the late 60s around 19 67 they are both from the kirkstall forge 5cwt where they were forged and they cost 20 pounds sterling each ,a quarry labourers wage was around 12 pound sterling ar the time. the other one is a p wright 1 1/4 cwt in very good as new order at the time my father got it for me from a ironmongers and it still had tar paper stuck on it new old stock, though living outside hasnt help it ,that cost 15 pound sterling in 19 70 as i wanted a small anvil to travel out shoing ,the shop accounts for that year we were charging 2 pound 10 shillings to shoe a farm horse. so it wasnt a cheap anvil

SGropp
128# Peter Wright ,no chips ,cuts or bad dings although well used. Bought in 1991 for $150 160# Soderfers with several torch cuts but otherwise in great shape. Bought in 1994 for $130 plus $35 to have the torch cuts welded up by a certified welder who knew what he was doing. 40# Trenton in great shape. Bought in 2000 for $120 shipped 260# Czech Double Horn , bought new from Old World Anvils in 2001 for $675 plus $125 for shipping. This is my main shop anvil and I really like it. Size, weight and the double horn configuration are just right. 55# double horn stake anvil also bought new from Old World for about $150 about 7-8 years ago . This is a very good anvil for its size, the long horns are useful for fine work and the heavy stake below the body of the anvil gives it a surprisingly solid blow for such a light anvil. 4120

Would this thread include new anvils as well?

Don't get anxious when looking for an anvil.Put the word out and wait. A new one pops up often. After my experience the price of an anvil is dictated by location and desperation. In my opinion Ebay is not an accurate measure of prices. Almost anything goes way too high these days on that site. Out west smithing tools are priced about 25-50% higher than here back east. No brand, markings etc. Casting marks visible in the bottom. I suspect it is cast steel, but might be cast iron. Has some rebound when I miss (more than a HF ASO) and some ring. 68 pounds on the bathroom scale. Wire wheeled and lightly sanded.
