  1. Cool score Nodebt. That anvil looks in great shape. Whats in the back with the pulleys?
  2. I made a pipe wrench knife, a center punch made from a 1/2” coil spring and couple of unfinished scribes from a 1/4” spring. the center punch may be my best heat treat ever and I set the spring aside because it was so successful. real happy with the knife. I have about 4 hours total and I have come a long way with my little 1”x30” belt grinder. Thanks for looking
  3. Did this last weekend. Super sharp but medium carbon. Fun to make. Yup its the 7/16” , cant find a 10mm…
  4. To me, one big plus for the So. German pattern is the built in swage. I find that I use this area quite a bit. Downside - there is no step and I have missed it on occasion especially while brushing. no new info here but thought I’d post a pic
  5. Nice anvil. Post some pictures when you get her set up :-)
  6. Super cool. Don't know how you could have made that pulley without it
  7. Love those hawks fellas. Very nice work Lived in the desert most of my life and no thanks to snow!
  8. That is one sweet lathe Justin, !! have you been using it much? I have my eye open for an Atlas/craftsman or SB in the 9-12" range but might want to think bigger. Limited space is my current issue and the fact that I more want than need. I have even been eyeballing those little china lathes (with great suspicion)
  9. Thanks Jen. I have come to the realization that I like making tools more than anything else.
  10. A friend at work said he needed a center punch. I said thanks and made him this. 5/8” coil spring quenched in oil and tempered at 450 in my toaster oven. Works great, there are 21 additional test punches on the other side. Lots of fun to make. Thanks for looking
  11. What about composition? Does a 200 pound Vulcan out perform a 100 pound Refflinghaus? I was always a bit nervous using big hammers on my Vulcan.
  12. I have to clear obstructions once or twice a year it seems. Never really can find what it was but a coup!e times saw something that looks like a speck of dust or something. Its the first thing I would look for. Not proud of it but I have even taken the hose off and sucked on the fitting and have cleared an obstruction by vacuum power..., once.
  13. Marines dont want dumb recruits. When I enlisted the Marine Corps and Air Force where the only branches that required a high school diploma. Army and Navy would take the uneducated at that time. The Coast Guard required a higher degree if I recall. Also the MC would put their less intelligent troops in supply or motor pool. They claimed that they wanted the best minds on the line as bright men make better fighters. Not sure of the merits but they did make me a 0331 machine gunner haha. That said you have to be pretty dumb to volunteer for what we went through. It is amazing how those 4 years have impacted my life since and recommend military service to all young people. Ooh-Rah, Semper Fi and good night Chesty Puller, where ever you are
  14. A lot depends on where you are but here in the desert southwest, an anvil in good condition would get around $4 or more. looks in very good shape- good luck
  15. Nice score for sure. Welcome to the addiction and Semper Fi.
  16. Haven't had much forge time lately so I was happy to get off a couple hours early. based off a vid From Gs Tongs. They need some clean up and some holes drilled and Im happy with the result. Plus a couple bits I need for a glass crusher I am making. Lots of fun and thanks for looking
  17. When I was in the Corps, I had Art. 15 (NJP) charges for "not making my bed in a military manner" no joke actual charge! I think they expected me to roll over but I went and saw a JAG who told me it was my right to refuse NJP and demand a court martial. I did and my Colonel ranted and raged and jumped up and down and called me a short haired hippy and then dismissed the charges. I had a bad run for a year and my superiors tried to make me quit after I got caught smoking a doobie. (it was Oahu in 1983 what can I say) I stuck it out, kept my nose clean and was honorably discharged in '85 an E4.
  18. Nice one TW.I would guess it is for ventilation. Are you planning to use it?
  19. Nice score Dano !!! Right time and place I would guess. It looks lonely for some hot steel. .have fun
