  1. Nice stuff everyone. I made another little knife from a new spring. I wasn't real happy with the hardness on the last spring I used so I used a piece of 5/8” from what looked like a new spring I got at the scrap yard. this one was tough to forge and my test sample got very hard. the days are too short… Also played with a horse shoe and sharpened fridays knife. Got reasonably sharp but like I said, does not seem very hard. super fun weekend. Thanks for looking .
  2. Cut with a chisel and yes very hard to do. I cant get them straight and ran out of day light. Thanks Das
  3. Got home a couple hours early and forged a little knife out of some coil spring and tried a 3 tine fork. Both works in progress and lots of fun.
  4. I believe the tool steel on the Vulcans is 3/16”, at least on my 100 pounder. They are considered theFord Escort of anvils. Very serviceable but low budget. Mine works great and is very quiet.
  5. Really cool Chimaera. Love the shape of both and good start with the leather work
  6. Followed in from the front porch. Not sure about the right angle part but it gets good reviews and I have a couple big batteries so for $90 delivered I figured I’d give it a go. 22k rpm
  7. Mi amigos from South of the border invariably call my home town Tuck-son when it is clearly Tuse-on. (Not clear at all) Makes my laugh Belived to be derived from the Tohono word “at the foot of black mountain”. Black mountain is a sacred spot to our indigenous brethren. Glad you are getting rain Thomas. Late june we drove from Durango to Albuquerque and the trees looked very stressed. Lots dead oaks. Really sad looking
  8. Looks like fun Shainarue. Speaking of punching, I found an unfinished split cross under my bench and decided to make a loop on top for a celtic looking cross but i got carried away. turned out pretty cool. Also worked on a blacksmith knife from 3/4” coil spring. Lots of material in a 3/4 spring! lots of fun thanks for looking
  9. I cant afford silver but I have forged a bit of copper and that was very fun in a kind of delicate way. Nice anvil
  10. Some of my heaviest work yet. Based on a John Switzer vid. 5/8” x 5’. For me it was hard to handle and wore me out a bit. The loop could be a bit bigger but I’m real happy with it. Lots of fun and thanks for looking.
  11. I got a couple more hours in. Started a knife from a 3/4” coil spring, cigar poker from a 3/16 garage door spring, and a a hook from a 8” spike. Lots of fun and thanks for some inspiration Das.
  12. Das can you post a picture of a finished one. 50 sounds like a lot. I got home a couple hours early and tried my new set hammer. Works fine but too big for what I was trying to do also made a heart for my sweetheart. First try with the horse heads and I pretty happy with them. and a bigger s hook. Lots of fun. Thanks for looking.
  13. Nice to see everyones work. Not today but over the last several weeks I try to make an S hook every time I forge and they are starting to build up. I have given away dozens.
  14. Really cool! How old is it and what does it weigh? looks in great condition under the dirt and I cant wait to see it run. How long do you figure it would take to cut a pice of your rail?
