  1. The problem with not claying a cast iron forge pan is the risk of cracking. I would clay the entire pan up to the fire pot but not the fire pot making it a ducks nest. About a half inch of clay should do it.
  2. More than likely the quote was removed by admin or a moderator. Did refreshing the page bring up the thread? It loads fine for me.
  3. Welcome Dan... have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST What is wrong with the leg and spring? pictures would help.
  4. Welcome... Throwing a hand grenade is not all it's cracked be. I did that in USCG boot camp (type that looked like a pineapple). Why I'll never know because I never saw another for the next 7 years.
  5. Welcome... wouldn't want to disappoint anyone. READ THIS FIRST I'll bet he has already read it though because the location is filled out.
  6. That's a good looking pattern. I can see other uses for a knife like that.
  7. Welcome to IFI Vincent, have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST It will help you in getting the best out of the forum.
  8. The only thing I see is the hydraulic hose. If it isn't rated for propane it may deteriorate. Not sure about that, but regular air hose is bad with propane, with high pressure hydraulic hose you may be OK just keep an eye on it.
  9. It's been my experience not following a design to the letter will cause problems. What did you change in that design?
  10. Letting us know that would have narrowed down the responses, ya think.
  11. I would use an exhaust fan larger than a bathroom vent, the type with louvers that open when the fan is running.
  12. You might try refreshing the page, some folks have had that problem and that solved it. BTW... quoting the post just prior to your reply is also frowned upon. We have members from about 150 countries world wide that have to depend upon dial up or pay for bandwidth and excessive quotes not only force everyone to reread what was just posted, it wastes bandwidth as oversize pictures do so that's why the admin requests that we resize pictures and trim back on quoting unless it's relative to a post that is way above the reply.
  13. For the dimensions on some common tongs, see the sticky at the top of this forum section.
  14. Welcome... have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST It will help you get the best out of the forum. If we knew where in the world you are located we could direct you to suppliers, hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show location. For dimensions it depends upon what you want to use them for. I have tongs that are made from 1/4 inch stock 8 inches long all the way up to 1 inch stock 4 feet long.
  15. But then again, I only weigh 90.7 kilograms. Now where did I put that triple chocolate cake?
  16. Probably a good idea, I would do it.
  17. I can't think of any words to describe how magnificent that sword is. To say I love it is an understatement for sure.
  18. Have you looked into this group? Looks like a great bunch of folks, wish I were closer. You would be surprised how many blacksmith's also do blades. https://www.calsmith.org/
  19. If we knew where you are located, hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show it. I bet there is a member near you who would invite you over to try some different belts. We have just about every one known to man. Have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST
  20. Welcome to IFI... Knowing where you hang your hat will help in the ID. Hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show your location. Your anvil looks to be in good shape and should do anything asked of it, good find.
  21. It's a Hay Budden made in Brooklyn NY and looks to be in very good shape the weight in pounds should be under the name. A very good find indeed.
  22. Quoting the post just prior to your reply is frowned upon, as covered in the linked thread. Also knowing where in the world you are located helps with answering, hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show it.
  23. Welcome to IFI... have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST It will help you get the best out of the forum. Don't be surprised if your thread is moved to the proper section.
  24. I have a pair of old straight pipe pliers that I use for holding short hot work punches & drifts. They give me more control than tongs and keep my tender hands away from the heat. For a long time I made all of my punches & chisels about six inches long. Lately though since my wife has been hammering hot steel we make the hot tools longer because that's what she likes and dosen't like using tongs or pliers.
