  1. When I met my wife in '76 that was her ride too, wish we still had it.
  2. From the pictures of the dragons breath it looks to me the gas jet orifice is too large. What did you use for an orifice and how far into the T is it located? I'm pretty sure Frosty or Mikey will give better answers than I.
  3. Only make one modification at a time, that way you will know what the change did. Also keep a note book about the changes. Changing too many things at a time usually makes things worse. Also knowing where in the world you are located will help, hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show it so you get more accurate answers. I know that propane differs from country to country and continent's. You posted while I was typing, we won't remember your location once leaving that post.
  4. Depend on the condition of the existing Kaowool. A picture may help. If it's not in excellent like new condition, I would replace it.
  5. I doubt you will get a reply from Mr.Martin seeing as he hasn't been on the forum in almost 5 years. Yes a 12 cast into the base indicates 120 pounds plus or minus a few when cast new. Trying to give an estimate of value without pictures is a stab in the dark, because what someone considers decent condition may actually be way off the mark. I have seen anvils advertised as in excellent condition that were missing the hardened face plate and have had the heels broken off making them nothing but a boat anchor worth scrap price.
  6. I'm not an expert either, just going by what I have seen on IFI and lately my memory can be considered to be laughable. IL-Bridge, if you wire wheel it, just put a coating of BLO on it to prevent rusting and bring out the patina.
  7. Plistex does the same thing as ITC-100Ht only better, in a forge and at a much more reasonable cost.
  8. The only two with a star I can think of is the American Star and Swedish Star. Usually anvils with two pritchel holes are Farriers pattern anvils. Both are wild guesses though. The Swedish Star anvils are marked Made In Sweden. Here is a thread about them.
  9. There are several threads about them here. If you do a google search like this brake roter iforgeiron.com the first hit has about 5 threads.
  10. Welcome aboard... Looks a lot like a large power hammer die to me. Of course if you can pound hot metal on it, it is an anvil. I know S&S is an anvil manufacture Sichelschmidt Schlasse. (Aka. S&S). Your other question regarding price is hard to answer, not knowing where in the world you are located. Hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show location.
  11. I'm going with Trenton too due to the lack of telltale power hammer marks under the heel. No matter though it looks like a great anvil.
  12. We have two of those wet grinders (one diamond wheel and a very fine wet stone) that were used for beveling glass (when we did stained glass) I thought about using them for knife work but was threatened with bodily harm by the boss if I did.
  13. The problem I have found in my 29 years being a LEO, is the criminal justice system no longer punishes those 10%. We have a saying, "if it wasn't for repeat business, we wouldn't have any at all". I'm very happy to have retired in 2013 due to today's climate.
  14. Moving up here from Florida, where you have to have permits & inspections for everything, I went to the county to get everything arranged when I built our house. They laughed and said we don't have any permits or inspectors, It's your house build it like you want. I built the house & garage to Florida building standards for hurricane code. When the only inspector, from the assessors office showed up to take pictures and measurements of the outside, for tax purposes, she said it was about the best house she has seen in years. Of course I have always been guilty of over building. The old place has withstood winds in excess of 70 mph over the last 38 years.
  15. I think a small cold/cape chisel would split the thick part of the old bolt to drive it out in pieces.
  16. I have a couple of old VHS floor racks that I have been threatening to convert them for shop use. Now I have just found a use for them, thanks. For my small punches, drifts & chisels, I have a round stainless steel cup about 4 inches in diameter, divided into quarters. It just sits on the floor next to the anvil stump under the heel. The larger ones just lay on the stump (the most used ones) or a shelf opposite the anvil.
  17. I think you have it identified. Early Champion blowers did not have a number, just called Lancaster blowers. The holes drilled in are probably added by a prior owner to put a wire mesh over it to keep critters out. Mice & mud dobber,s love to build nest's in them.
  18. Your good deed, selling the first one to a student, has been rewarded.
  19. I went to the Department of History Yale and did a search for Hess and Hess Iron works. No results were returned.
