PP make sure you keep the weekend of hammered at Moonies clear, (October end of) as Moon is only down at Braidwood, which as all canberra boys know is on the way to the beach.
Ok this is for anyone coming from OS to OZ, if you want to get about and meet blacksmiths here in OZ, its probably not such a good idea to post on a thread such as the Tamworth Group Site, as Tamworth is further more outback than Upper Comebuckar West, which is after the power lines finish and through a gate where there are only 2 wheel tracks, and well you get the picture. You need to post your intentions on the main forum where we will all see it. Not down here where only the tamworthites go to chat.
Cheers Phil
(Guys this is tongue in cheek OK I'm not having a go at Tamworth, remember I went to school in Kempsey and lived in Frederickton if anywhere is a backwater it is Freddo)
Does it have internal or external lubrication ie a sump or not. and what size is the hammer. We have an alldays that has a flywheel that is always coming loose.

I think he was saying that he had quenched in water and had also quenched in oil, not a water oil mixture, I could be excused for thinking english is not his 1st language.
A week? I had a car that went that slow once, ended up getting rid of it. Seriously you can drive across Oz in a couple of days, I did'nt think NZ was that big.
Woody,,,,,, if I find another 10 or 20cwt lying around under a bench or in the lantana bush I'll send it to you straight away, wonder how Aust Post would handle it though? promise
Hey tony where are you located, Knowing where you are and where you found these tools can give us some sort fo idea as to what they were for. So far they just look like run of the mill keyed in die blocks for some sort of job.
No I scrapped that one I thought you did'nt want it anymore, like it laid here for 3 weeks and you did'nt come and get it, so it got scrapped,,,,,,,,,,,sorry.
We have this steam hammer thats going to be our letterbox at our new workshop,(when we eventually get it built). It looks bigger standing up than it does lying on its side.

Classed as a cornish boiler, it was set into brickwork therefore a stationary boiler, it was fired by hand, the grate was located in the central tube, in service it was set with the inner tube to the bottom of the barrel, not really that efficient, but they had a fairly large steam reserve, due to the large amount of water above boiling point that was contained inside it, also had a reasonable large steam space, a further development of the cornish boiler was the lancashire boiler which usually had 2 fire tubes.

Monster started wearing a bowler, I bought a bowler then a top hat then moonie got one too, sets the scene. If you have to wear something on your head,(bald, sun, skin cancer etc) why not wear something to stand out from the crowd. Why blend in if you dont have to.

After you read up on it, answer this question, would you rather be landing in a jumbo jet that has cast landing gear or forged landing gear?
I know what my answer is going to be.

Yes unwashed backyard blacksmiths will be segregated from the public, by a big wire fence although they will be given swings and balls and bananas to play with. No really everyone is welcome, It may pay to let me, Moonie, Will Maguire, know so as we can arrange for you to get in without having to pay the entrance fee that the public has to pay, that is if you are coming to smith, if you are coming as the general public, that is a different case. See also my earlier post about Ironfest.
