gearhartironwerks
Howdy, I'm going to visit my son in Sidney for about 2 weeks starting 4-21 to 5-7. Anyone in the vicinity? I'd like to visit if possible. Thanks, John www.gearhartironwerks.com
AndrewOC
That's great John! Shall we assume you mean Sydney in the Australian state of New South Wales? If you can magically make the 2+ hrs drive west of Sydney to Lithgow on the 21st, there is a fun 'Arts Festival with a metal edge' called 'Ironfest'. See http://www.ironfest.net/ and http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/32513-lithgow-ironfest-2013/?hl=ironfest and http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/32524-ironfest-lithgow/?hl=ironfest Unless you are jet-lag proof and have spontaneously flexible transport options, I'd be surprised if you could make it. Other events I know of are later in May. There are a few folk and volunteer museum smithies I could suggest, we shall keep posted. Check out http://www.theaustralianapioneervillage.com.au/blacksmith_25.html and http://www.shf.org.au/shf/HertWorkshp.html (where I am) and every second Sunday of the month at Netherby Cottage (Galston). Some detail may be seen at; http://www.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/recreation-and-facilities/parks-and-playgrounds/galston/fagan-park and http://www.parklandsforge.com/news.php There are still various businesses running around Sydney, it would be bold of me to invite you to someone else's workshop! A couple of these; http://www.yellowpages.com.au/search/listings?clue=blacksmith&locationClue=Greater+Sydney%2C+NSW&selectedViewMode=&emsLocationId=region-50036 may be possible for visits... Hopefully See you soon, AndrewOC

ianinsa
To all you Ausies out there; here is a great opportunity to meet what is not only a really likeable chap, he is a verry knowlegable down to earth, and very practical smith. I was fortunate enough to spend some time at his place in 2011, boy was that worth the visit! Invite him to your place and I g/tee you will not be dissapointed, you will probable learn a lot from him too. I found out at least two verry interesting things from John. 1) how to play with Damascus.(thanks John) but this of course is a bit of a curse too  and he puts lettuce on a webber(I need to get the recipe from his good wife) John I hope you do'nt mind me adding my bit from the peanut gallery! B) Ian

forgemaster
Ok this is for anyone coming from OS to OZ, if you want to get about and meet blacksmiths here in OZ, its probably not such a good idea to post on a thread such as the Tamworth Group Site, as Tamworth is further more outback than Upper Comebuckar West, which is after the power lines finish and through a gate where there are only 2 wheel tracks, and well you get the picture. You need to post your intentions on the main forum where we will all see it. Not down here where only the tamworthites go to chat. Cheers Phil (Guys this is tongue in cheek OK I'm not having a go at Tamworth, remember I went to school in Kempsey and lived in Frederickton if anywhere is a backwater it is Freddo)
forgemaster
And it also adds to the chatter on your forum site too.
calala
Phil doesn't cost us mate, this is the most chat on here I've seen. Our mob are more action than talk, (or maybe they just don't know.) :(
