  1. Oh, and even though it has little to do with this thread, Really Nice Birdie Sculpture Scott! I guess all the cool kids like to hang out in your yard......... Ooops, what am I doing here??
  2. '76 - '79, IHAWK Missile Launcher Crewman 3/59 ADA, Hanau and Butzbach, FRG. Got to Battalion HQ, and when they found out I could touch type 14wpm, I became the equivalent of a paralegal. Never shot at, and an otherwise undistinguished tour of duty during the Cold War. Robert Taylor
  3. Helena, plenty of bad anxiety to go around these days, so plenty of us who can relate. besides, you belong wherever you choose to belong. Work at building your confidence in your self, and do not let the old norms rent space in your head. A great friend of mine is regularly reminding me about those who seek to rent space there, they do not pay their rent, and they usually trash the place........ Robert and Sheila Taylor
  4. So now I will have one right foot and one wrong foot? Always put the best foot forward, unless one is kicking fresh lava? Robert Taylor
  5. I have so many projects brawling for attention, it is no wonder nothing is ever quite complete OK, we do have completed phases that get put to work before they are quite finished. For those of you who asked me questions 10 pages ago, I have not forgotten....... Organisation can be a challenge on the Creek Ditch - I have built a shop, but have yet to get the building it goes in......
  6. Good to hear Charles, You, your Mother, and your Loved Ones, remain in our prayers....... Robert and Sheila Taylor
  7. My tuyere is pretty thin 1" ID tube (interchangeable). The first one melted down, the second one was adjusted to aspirate more naturally, and keep it cooler. Small adjustments work for me when I am not sure what I am doing. Sounds good, Glenn......
  8. in FreeMasonry, is it not a matter of Degree?
  9. good to hear it has a lock. I love a good old timey chainfall. check your messages. Robert Taylor
  10. Completely agree, Jennifer. The ability to hold the load at any point is well worth the investment. Robert Taylor
  11. Welcome to the Forum, JeroenSc, glad to see you have joined. I own two Soderfors, an 88#, year unknown, and a 1907 157#. 40kg is 88#, so I know that is a fine weight for me. I would probably pay too much for that anvil, given the chance, so I am glad it is too far a drive for me....... That damage on the face might help keep the price down a bit, but it would not stop me from kaufing up the dough. That anvil would be just perfect for a lot of the work I do. Good luck, and Welcome...... Robert Taylor
  12. duyhien welcome to the Forum. Your vise is beautiful. There is nothing I dislike about it. I hope you learn more about it, and May it bring you much pleasure. Robert Taylor
  13. Jennifer, I second Arkie's words, and it is a thrill to see your work unfold. Wishing you cool days with low humidity...... RobertTaylor
  14. Alexandr, I thank you for giving us a look into your world. Robert Taylor
  15. Aha! So that is why the "word of the day" is "Sinistrality"! Mrs. Taylor and me - Lefties! RobertTaylor
  16. During WWII, raw materials were very scarce. Every scrap pile was conscripted. The County Blacksmith taught his sons to innovate - no material or method was inappropriate to keep the farms going. One of his sons passed that discipline down to me. Dumpster Diving can certainly be in the spirit of *.*Smithing, as a component of vision and creativity. Hopefully Human Society will one day mine the landfills at a profit...... That wood came out of a 1905 Kimball upright piano. I have struggled with being over-meticulous most of my career - the flying public will probably forgive me. As a tool and cutter grinder, working routinely in tenths, and then hand working under the microscope, it was very stressful, and drove me (back) to smithing and woodworking. I did plane those sticks to within .040" of one another......
  17. Wood working and (*.*)smithing have long been inseparable for me: Shucks, I do woodwork on the flypress! I think I will use the forge to straighten a board! RobertTaylor
  18. Excellent and pleasing to the eye, Latticino, your work inspires... Robert Taylor
  19. Perhaps a bit of buffering will help, or will it only serve to compound the mess?
  20. I have only begun to "experiment". I am an uncredentialled amateur, but I do know that in general, raising the temperature often accelerates the reaction. I do not know about sodium hydroxide, but Keep in mind that mixing common household chemicals can result in unwanted violent reactions. Robert
  21. I have not the intelligence sufficient to satisfy your pedantry. Experimentation was succinctly implicit in the OP. I am sure you will have the last word. Respectfully, Robert Taylor
  22. Totally agree. That stuff is quite valuable. Robert Taylor
  23. Experimentation, Thomas, as succinctly stated in my first post.
  24. Was a super shiny bearing ball from the Grand Coulee Dam.
