  1. It is my understanding that the magnet makes contact with the side of the nail, and is not subject to any direct impact. In fact, the nail should naturally pull away from the magnet upon contact with the target. The counterbore into which the (cylindrical) magnet is inserted should be a close fit (or shimmed or epoxied) to prevent the magnet from bouncing against the wall of the bore. Neodymium would work fine under these conditions... Robert Taylor
  2. Welcome, Mr. USA, To the Forum. I hope that you will be able to abide by the Forum rules that you agreed to when you signed up. There are many here who have significant challenges, as Iron Dragon has mentioned. I am one amongst those. That said, it is incumbent upon you to learn the ropes, conduct yourself in accordance with the Terms of Service, and know that although your case may be unique, you are in the company of some of the Finest People on this Planet, and not all of us have traveled the Smooth Path. I extend my hearty welcome to one Awesome Family, hosted by Glenn, and his Dedicated Staff... Robert Taylor
  3. That is a lot of skellingtons. Gots to love a giant spider... Robert Taylor
  4. Love the look, love that backdrop! Robert Taylor
  5. Hey Das, there is a 4 kw generator set, receiver hitch, a big integral propane tank with control system, gas range and oven combo, and... I will lay all out and post photos once the carcass is hauled away... Robert
  6. Got to love a nice pair of tongs! Darned jack handles do not always have well-formed valve actuators. Will reform it in future, but tongs work nice in the interim. 24 foot motor home. Stripping goodies before scrapper hauls it off... Robert Taylor
  7. Knife pretty! We call those creeks and washes around here... DHarris, eager to hear your future thoughts on "hand crank vs. hair dryer"... JHCC, nice presentation of feed through heating and curve forming - good looking semiskircles... Robert Taylor

  12. Gandalfgreen, sounds like an exciting next installment coming... I almost never get to do hot work. This is about to change as the next phase of my project unfolds. Such a thrill just forging out a simple cable hanger... Robert Taylor
  13. Grrr. One of the reasons I opted for two oxy tanks. Sabre saw - I have no spare for that, just alternate means of severance... Robert Taylor
  14. Very fine images and descriptions, much appreciated. Robert Taylor
  15. 40%, fresh vinegar (acetic acid) at 14 hours. Phasing from stipping, over to some sort of corrosion inhibiting patination, all in the same jar. Caution: There was a notable pressure increase at living room temperature, had to relieve it 3 t in 14 hours. Do Not Sniff Jar. Robert Taylor Have you been exposed to hammer toning your bells? The Hammer peening causes differential (sic) hardening and helps to give voice. Quite a good pinch that you have on there... Robert
  16. Agree with all of the above. I have a karachi #5, but having just now (again) looked at the UK site, I would certainly go for several of the used ones currently for sale... Robert Taylor
  17. I support JHCC's premise. My 5 ton flypress gets used for so many different projects. It is a great mechanics tool, and not only can one aggressively work metals hot or cold, but also with delicacy and finesse.... Sure would like to see a pic or five of that flypress... Robert Taylor
  18. Hello Dex, welcome to the Forum. Looking forward to your engagement. This community is made up of Humans from across the globe, been my home away from home for eight years and counting... Robert Taylor
  19. Glenn, well said. I find the result to be quite satisfactory... Robert Taylor
  20. Forging a T-bone... And coking wood... Robert Taylor (T - bone later hot cut on a ceramic anvil):-)
