  1. It is cast iron, cast steel would be one solid piece with the face hardened. The steel faceplate would be heated to welding temp, then the iron would be poured the anvil upside down making a good weld at the faceplate. As for repairs i would look for an anvil in better shape. Good luck with it.
  2. I think I'm going to use your tripod stand for my new to me (1919) Fisher Thank You
  3. I have a 150# haybuden with 4 holes drilled for mounting probably been there for over 50 yrs with no problems.
  4. No serial # on my PW , nothing on the face, just the on the side, with horn to your right.
  5. I have a question on chimney, the building is atached to a 2 story barn.will I have to make the chimney taller than the 2 story or only taller than the peak of the building it's in? Thank you
  6. $100 is a good price,I would not pay any more than that. I have been able to find several for $1.00 per pound or less. Two I did pay a little more than that for, one was a 50# fisher in new cond, the other was my first and was a 150# Haybuden for $200
  7. The anvil was in the barn of a woman in her 80's,it was her husbands. It had a coating of grime 1/4" thick and I think that helped to preserve it. I dout it has seen much use the face is verry smooth, and yes rebound is good. Njanvilman if you want to look at it i can bring it Monday nite,or if I ever make it to your place.
  8. Can you include a pic? Is "100" $100 price you paid, or 100LBS weight of the anvil.
  9. I just bought this anvil, and was wondering about the 2 pins at the base below the heal,I haven't seen this before on any anvil, and most fishers have mounting lugs. Do you think they where for a factory stand,or someone drilled and pressed the pins in? There are no weight markings ,but looking at dimensions in Postman's book it should be 350#,I don't have a scale that goes over 300# to weigh it. It doesn't matter I'm just curious. Thanks
  10. Thank You, I guess i just got a little nervous when i saw the "crack"
  11. Unfortunately after cleaning, soaking in vinagar, and wire wheeling, there is a crack at the waist. I don't know if this anvil is useable this way,I may just bolt it to a stump and put it in the yard. let me know what you think.
  12. I attempted the vinegar trick but could not find a tub big enough with out needing20 gal. I think i will try the trash bag with 3 gal. Thanks
  13. After alot of cleaning I uncovered some markings. it looks like Brooklyn NY, I will try some more tomorrow and get some new pics
