November 2, 20187 yr Hope you have read about not grinding, milling or welding on the face of your anvil. It looks to be in great shape and hammering hot steel will polish up the face. Welcome to IFI... Where are you located? Have you read this yet? https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/53873-read-this-first/

November 2, 20187 yr Author Thanks for the replys! Just getting into blacksmithing. About to attempt a ribbon burner build for my heat, now I have something to hammer on. I'm located in Brighton Colorado. And now I have read that lol

November 3, 20187 yr Hahaha, im picturing a couple hobbits lugging a 400lb anvil that's almost as tall as they are to a volcano to weld on a new faceplate and mill the edges, avoiding NOSguhl and the ASOrcs.(Nasty hobbits's will ruin the precious!!) What about some of the heros of the story? Stryker the ranger, legvise the elf, boraxomir of the iron city, and flatter baggins.
November 3, 20187 yr The feet dont quite fit the mousehole profile. It's also missing the deep dots between the English hundredweight markings.
August 8, 20196 yr So will somebody clue me in as to the breed of that King of anvils. my new book will not arrive till the 14th. or I would look myself.
August 8, 20196 yr It is a Mousehole. You can still make it out some on the side. The feet look like those on mine. The dots are visible as well.
August 9, 20196 yr When anybody tells you that their anvil is the undisputed king of anvils---just smile and nod and back away slowly and hope the lads with the special coat with the extra long sleeves are handy!
August 9, 20196 yr Too right because mine is the undisputed King of all the anvils. (Could the top be smoothed any?)
August 12, 20196 yr I'm betting that in the day that Peter Wright and Mousehole owners were just like Chevy and Ford owners are today.
August 15, 20196 yr Likely so, and just like the Ford guys today, the Mousehole guys would have been right. Chevy for show. Ford to tow it there.
August 18, 20196 yr Everyone knows you need the Wright anvil to do good forging on! I wouldn't william FOSTER the misconception that might trap a new smith with a Mousehole...(Actually I love the massive sweet spot on Mouseholes; just haven had one come my way yet...)
