June 11, 20251 yr Frosty, she has finally warmed up enough not to run off when i try and take a pic. Still wont let me pet her but at least she does not run off and hide when i walk in.
June 11, 20251 yr If you keep small bits of high value treats in your pocket she'll be your best bud in no time. Another trick that works really well for me is to ignore them, cats tend to hate being ignored. Kittens not so much though and she's really young. Food is the better bet. Do you free feed or have established meal times? Even standoffish cats get pretty friendly at meal time. Frosty The Lucky.

June 12, 20251 yr Billy, we used to have a cat who would complain that he was going to STARVE if he could see the bottom of his food dish. The fact that he had been a stray at one time may have made him more concerned about not having food. "As God is my witness, I will never be hungry again!"
June 13, 20251 yr She is starting to come around. She has let me pet her a couple times now and the other night she was in bed with the wife when i got home from work. She has only been in the house about 10 days now so i think she will come around. We have 3 cats in the house they were born as strays. Every once in a while the wife will want to keep one rather than let the TNR people adopt it out.
June 13, 20251 yr Find a toy she likes and attach it to yourself. When I came home from the TBI accident I still had a blocked feeding tube in my belly in case they needed to hook me up again. The doc trimmed it about 1 1/2" long but didn't remove it. Damascus one of the cats just loved to play with my belly tube and was most determined and active when I was sitting on the pot. More than once I had to laugh when she stuck her paw through the shower curtain swatting at it. She'd perch on the window sill and guess where my belly tube was. Same thing happened when I dried off. If you take note of the frowny expression on a cat's face when it's looking at you. That IS it's happy face! Frosty The Lucky.

August 27, 2025Aug 27 Cute kitten but kittens are always cute. I do want to thank you VERY much for bringing up names from Archie comics. I've never been terribly interested in Archie and crew though you can't grow up when I did without catching it. Sooooo, not being familiar I just spent at least an hour on an Archie characters site looking for names. You could name more cats than go through a kitty mill from that list. Just write them on a slip of paper and draw one. Timid and quiet in the strip could be Betty or Midge. To name a couple. Frosty The Lucky.

November 5, 2025Nov 5 Thanks Frosty. I'm glad to be back in a kind of position to forge again. It's been a while and I don't know what all I shared before, but I went through a relatively minor bout with cancer a while ago. Just a small spot in my throat, thankfully. Radiation took care of it, did a round of chemo to make sure it doesn't come back, lost over 100 lbs, lost my teeth (radiation doesn't stop at the tumor) and several other side effects, but I am feeling a ton better now. Artie is a fairly new addition. He was a stray that we had started to feed. One day we were able to catch him in a live trap, but he'd been beaten up pretty bad by something and had a pretty bad gash in his side and his eye was messed up. I suspect he got under a car to stay warm, and, well... We took him to the vet, got him stitched up and nursed him back to health. He absolutely dotes on the Missus, he puts up with me. He's a tiny little thing. Unlike this guy. This is Gabby. He came with the house. for a couple of years he hung around outside. We'd occasionally out food out for him, he'd occasionally leave a dead bird in my basement. Well, like Artie, he got hurt, looked kind of like he took on a Rottweiler (and probably won) We took him in too, and he seems glad to be inside. Gabby is a monster of a cat. He weighs about 20 lbs
November 6, 2025Nov 6 Congratulations on Beating the scourge! Deb's undergoing very low dose targeted Xray therapy for a skin cancer on her nose. As I write in fact. The women in her family seem to have a propensity for skin cancer. Fortunately med science is starting to get a handle on cancer so they don't need to be brought close to the brink of death to kill the cancer. Heck, I've had a course of photodynamic treatments for precancerous cells on my nose, left ear and left side of my forehead. The side that gets the most sunlight driving. Looks like I'll need a couple more treatments, seems they didn't quite take the last time. One kind of UV B A D, another kind is good. I still ended up with sun (lamp?) burns that lasted a couple days. The way Artie decided to adopt you sounds like how Qiviut adopted us. He was born in the barn to stray cats that lived amongst the hay bales. Deb spent days sitting and talking to some 16+ kittens and got them tamed enough we were able to rehome them all. Qiviut was the most wary and the last to be handleable at all. We ended up live trapping him and decided to keep him because he's not only a big cat, 17lbs when he was young but he just doesn't trust anybody he doesn't know, won't even come down stairs if Deb and I are here. He's a love bug upstairs and spends time downstairs if we're upstairs. We and the vet figures he's at least mostly Maine Coon, his size, vocalizations, color, toes, etc. Gabby was welcoming you to His house with the mice and taking on a dog and winning isn't unusual for a Maine Coon. He sure looks like he is or has a lot of Maine Coon in him, that kind of rusty tan and black tabby is pretty much a Maine Coon trait. I LOVE the face on his visible side, I see faces on my cat! Does he have odd vocalizations? Say a short Myk, almost a doglike bark when he wants your attention or something? Doglike traits are so VERY Maine Coone. Frosty The Lucky.
November 6, 2025Nov 6 My wife goes out everyday to the barn and around the yard to feed and water the cats here. We work with a local TNR group that comes out periodically and traps the cats. The adult cats get neutered while the kittens get adopted out. My mom adopted 2 of the kittens that were here a while back. When she took them to the vet she said that the kittens were tortoise shell Siamese and quite rare. We have one big boy running around here that is a Russian blue. He hurt one of his front paws earlier this week. The wife decided that she would bring him in so he could heal. Well, the cat went under the couch and up into the back of it. After moving the couch and retrieving him, he ran immediately to the basement, hid under the bottom step where we could not get him. When he finally came out he went ballistic trying to get out of the house so back out he went. Oh, i did not mention that it was the middle of the night when he came out as well.

December 31, 2025Dec 31 Ringo modeled for me with the bird feeder hanger I made today. The feeder that will hang here has a wifi camera built in to capture the little freeloaders as they feast.
February 8Feb 8 These two take up lots of my time while I am in the shop. They think they need petting and to throw the balls.
