  1. lately I have been working for a contractor building a large house on top of a mountain welding structural steel I beams for Lg window frame unit & wrap around second floor outside deck & so on Wile talking about hammer control @ lunch time I notice that all the crew members use titanium framing hammers Hmm ? In my first thought about them was its to light & NO wt behind them well I just had to try one so I turned back into a wood framer for a bit I gota say I was impressed they hit harder than I thought ! & are lite wt :) cost $$ 250.00 + So the smithing challenge -- since I don't have any titanium here or anyway to get a scrap piece MAYBE ?? someone out there mite have a piece & forge it into some kind of hammer & test it out forging ??-- and get back to us on what you think about this, one of a kind hammer ? Then maybe the ? of what wt of hammer that works best will be thrown out the window LOL :o Steve PS -- or if you have a piece to donate to this Idea we can forge it out here @ are local meeting in July just give me an EM [email protected] Thanks again

  3. Thanks Sam & All for you're effort & Info on welding !! GOOD JOB *** I started welding in 76 in a Mom & Pop shop they welded just about anything that came in the door !! since then I have taken that to the point of welding anything from A to Z !! with any welding process I run a welding shop with 3 employes - Me, Myself, & I LOL one of the things I find the hardest - OTHER than figuring out how long it will take to weld up the job is what rods to use for what I am welding -- this isn't a beginners ?-!! so here it is for all you welders here - WHAT kind of rods do you use on what you weld up ?? lets say heavy eqt buckets or whatever - specially cast rods for whatever ? stuff like that I have rods in my shop that only 1 other welder here knows what there for, all welding here is done by 6011 / 6013 / 7018 / 308-16 / ni-55 for arc other than that there in trouble Mig mild steel / 308 / aluim 5356 / structural wire lol ! not here !!!!! :<( and a weak point for me like dual shield & such would like to learn more in that area ! Tig my strong point & back ground is even worse here :<) an ACE card for me when I can use it not often though :<( I will gladly answer any ? in that area ! So welding what ? / what kind of rod or rods ? / arc-mig-tig-or ? / Maker of rod ? I will start then gota get working Heavy Eqt / rods 7018 min a better rod is 110-18 takes more abuse / maker Washington alloy they make some smooth running rods I recommend them THANKS All sorry got off topic some LOL but were all here to learn some new tricks STEVE'S Welding & Fab & Artistic Blacksmithing PS-- when I took a welding class MANY years after I learned welding ?? do we ever ? the teacher used only !! 6010 whats that I asked ?? he told me its a hard rod to run if you can run it you can just about run anything else !!! he was right ! its a hard rod to run & a good rod to learn on for you welders that want to learn to arc weld well - 7018 & 6011 were lock up in the cabinet to easy LOL

Alan the O'pps on blade length was me & I marked / painted it on the saw along time ago Its at least a beer or two longer than will tighten up & I forgot that I switch the 1 -3 PH plug out to 2- 1Ph 220 plugs LOL so wiring job coming up and that mite just force me to re-wire my back wall since I moved the welding area back there years back elec is safe but plugs are not where they need to be, then theres the new 10' slide door I want to put in the back next to the forge that takes out the 3 elec conduits going to the back area need to go up & over the new door and down total re-wire 110 + 220 1+3 ph DANG its one of those jobs you look @ THEN go find a beer & do something else !!
