  2. OH thats an easy one ! just take off the solenoid install a manual hand valve & youre there :D And you DON'T need a Electritian :P so are we helping yet LOL well someone had to do it ;)

  5. thanks for the pic I have lots of peices of that looking for something to be lol good Idea :)
  6. if that is a cast Iron anvil - cast Iron arc rod are not cheap & for the time to fix invalved you really don't have much :( you mite try to run a test weld with an wire feed with plane steel wire if it sticks ?? take a chisel to it & try to knock it off if its still on well then wire feed the dare thing & grind --- I have done this twice on 2 anvil & fix a boat anchor LOL
  7. yesteryearforge VERY Nice work -- LOOKS alot better than scrap to me ;) PS I have 8 sheets or so of old roof copper I just can't scrap ! lol
  8. Another good Idea for propane forge saftey I have on/off GAS ! valve @ the tank befor the regulator the valve is a ball type made for gas 1/4turn of valve gas line is off @ the sorce - I also have a ball valve @ forge for adjustment -- regulator @ tank after the valve - line/hose to forge is made for gas ALSO there's a spray bottle of soapy water to CK for any leaks --- I DO this offen !!! all lines get leak ck atleast every 90 days or so -- ac/ox - propane - argon - helium co2 when I change out an empty tank its ck for leaks @ the valve ! ----tank valves leak more offen than you would think !!! AC T tops are the worst for small leaks -- if valve leaks PAINT on tank LEAKS & return to filler they don't like the paint job but its stops them from putting it back in stock to sell to the next guy hopefully
  9. I would put the forge on good lockable wheels that way it can go anywhere easy
  10. other option would be find a LG Heavy chunk of steel then weld a tool steel plate to that :)

  13. OK Norseman / where you @ again LOL brain tired  pics didn't work @ the post  will try again later OIL burner COOL I!got pics ? my shop stove works on oil an wood & blower air very basic would like to use only wast oil for heat for shop then again that brings the ? of an oil fired forge :) intro the picture Steve
  14. I have started to design & build a new propane forge for the shop finely :D What I am building is a flat top forge with a ribbon burner pointing straight down, this top piece 31" X 31" SQ metal tray will be hook up to a trailer jack so the hole top can be moved higher or lower depending on size of project being worked then you just stack fire brick for walls Now the ?? I want to cast the top tray piece in one pour I am looking for a Good high temp cast-able ANY Ideas on what to buy & from who Also any Ideas on how to hole the castable in the tray I am thinking on some SS rod -- like you would do a cement floor with re bar OR would T piece weld in be better ? I will post pics as things get built :) the floor part is built it will be brick hard or soft that is still a ?? this hole forge unit will swing over my Lg coke forge or swing out of the way to use coke forge do to my forge area space, also forge top piece is removable to fix or change out to another top unit if need be for future whatevers LOL ! later I will make a cart for it so it could go outside if needed this is my take on a multiple use / size forge, for the strange sculpture forms we are doing lately Like this ss sea creature in the works other than the stand the creature is all formed ss plate
  15. NOT bad Hill I can tig aluim cans never thought of 2 razor blades lol have to give that a try now if I can find my test weld on a jet turbine air fin its a .30 plate cover with .25 ss weld LOL 2.5 amps NOT an easy weld ! eyes just don't do that kind of welding anymore :(
  16. VERY Cool story I wonder how long it was since he was near a forge before that ? GLAD you let him use the forge ! :) sounds like it made his day
  17. To me its-- Because He like's his work :) to him its not a job its a challenge :) !! Hench its a venture into LOL well its HOT :) SO ?? why do we do what we do ?? myself its the call of the metal not the profit LOL :) it has always been a need / a Love  for the art of welding & years later metal smithing :) AND the learning on this sight !!!!! :)
  18. that looks like you could build one out of steel & weld up ?
  19. when I make candle wax dishs -- I use a HF air nibbler put in a vice - built a air valve foot switch - made a aluim pattern of size I wanted to need up with = that means pattern is small than size you get - shear stock into sqs - use vice grip welders clamp to hold & nibble away - clean up edges on belt sander other way is find or make a pipe that has right ID when you use youre plasma cutter & cut them out
  20. BGD there is a model railroad club in town I know one of the members they meet on sat 10 am for coffee @ Apple Peddlers
