  1. 4043 wont work you need 5660 if I remember right ,talk to welding supply co about it they should be able to set you right Steve's Welding ck that No# now I have to look what is on the aluim Mig I used to work on boats 6061 is a hard aluim will not bend thats why 4043 cracks it shrinks to much for 6061 plat stronger than the weld
  2. I repair anvils a lot & not had a problem in that area ! just weld it with right ROD !!
  3. my vote Whites there not cheap ! but they will rebuild most of the boot again & again for years for you IF they wear out
  4. COOL Glen :) CBA / = Jefferson Smith here we are the Real northern end of the Ca state group CBA
  5. I vote for Mark A 3 books very well done ! & new edge or the anvil I have all of them :) there are others but those are a real good start & you will read them again & again ! PS Mark A is all over U Tube to AND thanks for the info on the glass blowing books I will look into those ! I love HOT steel & I want to try my hand at lamp work BAD !!!! :D Steve's Welding & Fab & Artistic Blacksmithing & Glass LOL
  6. John Emmerling a member here has a Demoor 400 wt I got to run it years ago just after he installed it :) nice hammer !! & that was before they tweak it I here it runs sweet now a days I need to do a 9 hr drive & go there again someday !!
  7. do you know anyone with a lg Cat or track Ho ?? or the like -- 966 loader :) I have bent stuff this when needed also 966 is next door put a block under each end steel would be better than wood, use cat blade to press down on hump slowly ck often for straightness to bend big stuff you need something Bigger NOW other Idea put in forge bring up to temp and tap with hammer :o
  8. NAN Glen I am there its just the propane forge is next to the coke forge to easy LOL :) thats what happens when you weld a table to the coke forge for tools LOL then park the propane forge on that - then put the tools in the cold coke forge  OOPS LOL
  9. NICE ! I want one LOL  if I many ask how much air dose it take to run a PH like that ? thinking of re-working a Lg mine compressor I have so I have all the air and then some !!!!!!!!! or selling it if I had a few air PHs shop compressor mite be to small ??? something I kick around every so often
  10. I agree with Glen -- Hmm that reminds me I took mine off when I redid the hood :o that's why I haven't fired the coke forge up in awile :( the Luck is gone <_< & the flue is gone to LOL - maybe I will deal with Monday propane is so much faster BUT :D
  11. Peacock nice fix simple & right ! well done
  12. well first off can you get 3 PH to it ??? or find / change motor to a single PH --- OR start looking into Inverts
  13. looks like a Peter Wright ? /style anvil to me ?????
  14. I have a yang # 33 running & a Champion #65 that's not running yet- also I can use 2 other PH down the road I am making die tooling that bolts to the die's of Yang #33 now & wondering what folks use daily ? or what a good tool would be to make / have ? I will post pics of what I have made so far & how to do it for the yang #33 when I get a chance this Idea came from Peter Clark for this size hammer & others, you can do the same thing on any PH die set I am also wondering what spring tools & hand tools would be good thing to make ? @ this point have very few tools now but I am on a PH tool fab thing now LOL :) Glen if you want to move this thread to tooling Ok but I think there should be a PH tooling sub category somewhere on the site - you're call gona have to edit for pics ? for those that have a #33 Y two make this die tool blank, what it is is a Rec-Tube 3/16 Tc - 2" X 3" X L of die cut the bottom part of the tube off & you then have a channel or U piece drill a bolt hole in you're die & tube piece then weld any tooling from / shape on you want
  15. LOL -- so have you made a Light Saber yet  PS New century knife thingy
  16. Here's some of the art projects that have been done here over the years :) they have be fun & a challenge @ the same time Topanga Library Book Flower Project near LA Ca this piece was commissioned & built for there new library a few years back by Norman a artist & my self doing the iron work, the book flowers & Dragon fly's have broken tile piece's in them this project is about 25' + tall in all Norm @ the library - Me standing on my shop deck next to one dragon fly will post more stuff as I have time ;)
  17. I buy a 55 lb bag of coke so theres no green coal to deal with, witch makes very little smoke compared to coal one of my student is 70 + years old guy & he cant take the coal smoke @ all & my inside forge is vented real good but still
  18. generally right handed but VERY ambidextrous, more than likely do to my job welding, other than Tig welding it doesn't matter on Tig I have to really think when I change hands LOL & again the foot pedal doesn't mater on smithing every so offen I will work left handed its good brain training & come the day I can't use right hand then I have a back up
  19. one way to cut down on coal smoke is switch to coke, it doesn't smoke as bad & that's a good thing for a public demos but its amuch Hotter fire & will go out with out consent air input & can burn up your forge fire box if its metal coke is also cheaper :) Now my forges are side draft with a water tank fir box is brick lined in a clay filled box sand works as well this my portable set up the shop forge is the same thing with side draft hood & Bigger
  20. instead of stone wt use troy oz wt  lol
