  1. That's true and because the xray lead foil is as close to pure lead as you can get it's perfect for patched round balls and cap & ball revolvers. I've probably cast hundreds of pounds for mine.
  2. Welcome to IFI James. We won't remember your location after leaving this post, hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show it. This thread will help you get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST The blower looks like a number 40 or 400 and there are several threads about rebuilding them. I have never had one apart so can't help but I've read that unless it's absolutely necessary it is recommend not to pull the gears.
  3. Welcome to IFI... Have you read this yet? It will help you get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST As far as mounting the anvil it can be done but is not easy. Might want to look at this thread for an idea.
  4. Think I'll have a snack & adult beverage while the blood blister on my thumb heals up. Wish this had been posted on Friday because a vise bit me on Saturday while at our BOA meeting and I was oiling up the screw & box.
  5. Melt it and cast ingots to sell to muzzle loaders for casting round balls.
  6. I would pull the covers off and clean out the gear box to check the gears, then lightly oil them (just enough oil that the lower gear runs in it) and check the fans for critter nests and mud dauber hives, they love old blower housings.
  7. Just above the stone weight stamp 3-0-12 or on the other side, there may be remnants of the manufacture stamp if I remember correctly Peter Wright and others also had Solid Wrought stamped in them too. Try dusting that area with a little flour then wipe it off to see if that brings anything up. A picture of that area will help. The hardy hole looks to be worn in using hardy tools that had a rounded base.
  8. Johnnyd, I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  9. This is the best advice I can think of too. ABANA has some excellent on line tutorials. Beware of You Tube experts unless they are endorsed by members here. 10. As far as which forge to use, I suggest using both. Each has it's own benefits and draw backs. We have both and use the one best suited for the work at hand. If you are set on purchasing a gas forge this thread may help with the decision.
  11. Also make sure the hardy's fit correctly without any taper that would put undue stress on the sides of the hardy hole.
  12. Welcome to IFI Preachinpilot... As Frosty suggested editing your profile to show location will stop us from dunning you when an answer requires that info. I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  13. I suggest you take your own advice. The two people who you seem to be trolling have not acted like jerks by answering your questions, but have been honest with you. If you have a personal problem with someone, you can always use the ignore function.
  14. Welcome to IFI, We won't remember this after leaving this post, hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show location. If you haven't read this yet, it will help you get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  15. Welcome to IFI Hector. I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST Like Thomas said, we love pictures.
  16. Depends upon how large your scrolls are. Small scrolls are made on the anvil and large ones with a jig. When matching parts, I make one that I like and then match the rest to it. If I match the third or later ones to the last one I made they always won't match the first. How about a picture of the ones you have made.

  18. Why in the world would you think that you offended me in any way? I am merely trying to help you get the best out of the forum and stay off the moderators radar. BTW, there is a way to tag someone with the @ sign, but it is discouraged by the admin. I'll let you find that one on your own.
  19. You might also want to read this about quoting the post just prior to your reply. The quote feature
  20. Ya think? Maybe reading this will help with that.
  21. Welcome to IFI... Patience usually pays off when looking for an anvil that's affordable using the TPAAAT. For starters I suggest reading through the sticky threads in the areas that interest you, just make a sandwich & preferred beverage, there are quite a few.
  22. Ah now that we know where you are we can suggest this thread for you, a great bunch down under.
  23. All that anvil needs is hot steel hammered on it to shine up the face. Knowing where in the world you are located will help answering other questions that come up. This thread will help you get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
