  1. The optimism of youth, gotta love it. Next thing you know it will be a Seax made out of pattern welded Damascus.
  2. 1908 according to AIA. Should be 102 U.S. pounds. BTW: welcome to IFI. Have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST It will help you get the best out of the forum. Do you have any pictures of your Hay Budden? We love pictures.
  3. I've always called them post bases, one good one is a strong-tie.
  4. I don't think that's a factory plate but rather an owner inventory plate. Many companies use them to identify their tool inventories.
  5. We won't remember that once leaving this post, hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show location. It could be a problem with the BBQ tank itself. Some tanks have a safety device in the shutoff valve preventing high pressure. Without the regulator attached, crack the valve to see if it will free flow.
  6. Welcome, have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST
  7. Welcome to IFI, have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST It will help you get the best out of the forum. In the picture, it looks like a BBQ regulator to me. Is that the one you are using? What pressure reading? Where in the world are you located?

  9. When you are posting look down to the paper clip that says Drag files here to attach, or choose files... That is where you download pictures, once the picture has downloaded click on the + to add it to the post. Then double click on the inserted picture and a box opens up that allows you to resize the picture.
  10. I tend to agree with ausfire about the hearth being built up with clay and the firepot crafted out of the clay.
  11. Sounds good, but remember if there are no pictures it didn't happen. Just remember to resize the pictures to around 500X357 so they don't take up a lot of bandwidth.
  12. Depends upon condition. I would check with local welding supply companies, they frequently have used machines for sale.
  13. Welcome to IFI Chus, I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  14. Welcome to IFI. Have you read this yet? It will help you get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST What is the size/weight of it? Like Frosty, I doubt it's a stake anvil but more likely a hinge half for a gate.
  15. I found this. It's a place to start researching. BTW: Welcome to IFI Pam, you might want to read this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST

  17. When quoting please edit the quote to remove pictures and long text. Also pictures should be resized to around 500X375 so they don't take up so much bandwidth and load faster. A lot of members are on dial up or have to pay for bandwidth.
  18. How are you applying the flux? In the picture it looks like it has been dunked into the flux. If you are heating the steel to welding temp then dunking into flux and trying to get the steel to stick, that's part of the problem.
  19. Brain fog is what my Oncologist calls it, a common aftereffect to chemo. I also struggle with names & places but not all the time. I often call our new dog by the name of a long passed one. His name is Axle and I sometimes call him Toddy.
  20. Welcome to the insanity. My wife is also a smith and she said to tell you hi from her also (she doesn't post but reads over my shoulder). Glad to have ya with us.
  21. Instead of kerosene, mix up a batch of automatic transmission fluid and acetone 50/50 and soak it in that. I guarantee it will cut through any rust and crust in a day. It works just as well as Kroil and is a lot less expensive. I think there are several You Tube videos on taking the 400 apart, I'll see if I can find them. This is the one I'm thinking of.
