  1. For a replaceable floor number (1) High alumina kiln shelf will work well. In our forge (a 20 pound propane tank) we used a heavy coat of bubble alumina (Kast-O-Lite 30) over the blanket but it's not replaceable.
  2. We got those at Lowe's and Home Depot because one had the red one and the other the blue one. That way all my wife has to say is get me the red bucket or the blue one and I say yes dear. Forgot to include we use 2 of the canvas tool totes from HF for the small stuff.
  3. We use 5 gal buckets with the tool organizers for traveling. One contains mostly hammers and the other tongs with chisels, punches and drifts in the pockets . Each weigh about 40 pounds and are easy to carry. In the shop everything is on/in racks or on flat surfaces.
  4. When we don't feel like firing up the generator, we use Aladdin lamps for light and our cook stove is propane. If the power is out for more than a couple of hours its generator time to run the well, don't like being out of running water. We live so far out in the woods, we don't get Monday night football till Wednesday.
  5. I have found that old wagon wheel hub wrench makes a good bending tool.
  6. Would a rubber duck do... or maybe borrow his. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB68gRdJXv0
  7. A friend of mine, Kong was his nickname (rest his soul), was driving home one winter day when he came upon a wild turkey hung up in a hog wire fence. He thought it was dead so he put it in the cab of his truck to take it home. Well that turkey came to and liked to beat him to death before he could pull over and let it out. Got a lot of stories involving Kong but probably most not appropriate for a family G rated forum.
  8. Like Frosty said, if you edit your profile to show location, there may be other members near you and sometimes knowing where you are is needed to give accurate answers. I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST I like your set up. Looks like your forge is an Army pack forge, we take ours to club meetings when there is a shortage of forges.
  9. In my experience the BBQ regulators will not work in a propane forge. Another thing is only change one thing at a time and take notes.
  10. Bandsaw blade, I figured you meant the blade weld failed. That's what I get for figuring.
  11. Looks like a pre 1830 (no pritchel hole) Mouse Hole to me.
  12. I will ring the anvil three times and lift a dram of single malt scotch in his honor.
  13. Too bad you didn't video that. This is a classic turkey vs cop video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nBw4lP8bwg
  14. Or use a quick stitch sewing awl with needle & thread in one tool.
  15. Getting back to suggestions as to what the anvil is. I also think it's a Trenton or possibly an Arm & Hammer. No matter who made it that anvil is ready to go to work no grinding on the very minor chips needed. Grinding can do more harm than good.
  16. True, that's why I work the joint while peening to keep it moveable.
  17. Welcome to IFI... I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST It will help if you edit your profile to show your location, that way we won't have to ask you for it when answers require knowing where in the world you are located.
  18. I usually heat the rivets, depending upon size, small one not so much but tongs use a larger one so yes.
  19. Not stupidity, but inexperience and definitely impatience, I have the same problem at times.
  20. I usually just drive the rivet out and make a new one when modifying nippers.
  21. Same here in the Ozarks. One reason we nicknamed Carroll Electric Carroll flicker & flash. Although I must say they are getting more reliable in recent years, but still keep the generator ready to go.
