  1. Adjust it first, unless you've lost the bearings they are probably good.
  2. See if you can get hold of a variable speed drive or a variable frequency drive unit, should help with the extra rpm your looking for mate
  3. natkova, if you can get hold of a car battery charger that has an output of around 8amps 12volt that plugs into the wall that will run the fan for you, the one you showed is too light. Any second hand/pawn shops in your area?
  4. just picked up my copy of the book, thanks very much Steve
  5. can you put the wheels on the inside, to make it narrower, and say under or just in front of under the fire-pot, to help with the weight distribution?
  6. the root cause of shoulder or knee pain may not be the area that is showing the pain, see a good physio before a doctor and DO the exercises mate
  7. i'd go with the K, i sent an email to the company a few weeks ago, it's made in China not Australia
  8. should have plane ticket down booked today
  9. my forge is just a '44 with 6"cut out to bring the height down, your brake drum in a '44 will work good mate
  10. do not cut a hole in that bit of beam mate, the side will be a pita for a start, save it for an anvil till you get a better anvil
  11. if you go the shed, see if you can get double doors both ends, i vote high cube shipping container, weld, cut, shut where you want, strong. i don't know anything about PH's but shipping container floors are solid, bit of bounce maybe but you may have to upgrade slab anyway. secure down either way you go
  12. DM, Also taking a video of your own hammer striking will help you see where your elbow really is, not where you think it is.
  13. i sent them an email, this is the info. "this product is made from a cast steel and as advertised have been hardened to an HRC rating of 58 and to a depth of 3-4mm. Also, the anvils are manufactured overseas by an experienced tools manufacturer and exporter"
  14. crack a window a bit may help mate, let some air in to help flow.
  15. mate i have not being smithing long at all, like you i was looking at new anvils and the best you can do is try before you buy, make a few things, it will take a will to build up to making that sort of stuff, unless you have already. just my 2c worth
  16. i reckon it's great. i'd make up a couple if different grates, more/less holes, drop in and change fire size. IMO drill holes along the tuyere, thread the holes and put bolts in, ever start doing blades take out the bolts change air grate to single hole plate and away. that is a "to make" for me definatley
  17. the second set (1 sharp and 1 blunt jaw) are used for pulling horse shoes
  18. if you knock the broken edges off your teeth with a file. If you drive a hot wire through a tooth to stop a tooth ace. (both true, second one by a better man than me)
  19. I'd like to see Ted T's comment put into " About to start Blacksmithing, fully commit, or just a Hobby" as well please.
  20. have a look behind the teeth on the brass gear, might be an allen key there into the keyway
