  1. There's only one thing that talks louder than cash mate... FREE!!!, as an anvil nothing wrong with it, very useful. Set it in a block of wood and go at it.
  2. Hey mate your having a go, good on ya, plenty of good smiths started with very much the same gear. Good job mate.
  3. Its not the wrong way mate, you just havn't done the final twist is all-))
  4. Ethan you will know when your poker/rake hits a bit of clinker even if you can't see it, it goes "clink" sounds completly different to coke.

    Oven for charcoal cooker

Indirect method, it took cook time from 6hrs down to less than 2. Need to put a dampner on the chimney and make some doors for it. Built it to help control sparks from fire.
  6. Cluttered shop = ???, sad to say I dont have a shop = (please dont tell me) lol
  7. Not burning steel is easier if you use the same size and type of steel, when you have steel in the fire that is all there is in the world (untill you and I both get better). Deliberatly burn the first piece of the day before you hit it, this does 2 things for you, 1: you've already burnt steel so no need to do it again, 2: it helps "set your clock" or get your mind on the job.
  8. Good anvil mate, I'd just pein the cuts over and get some hot steel on it and start hammering, after a year you'll be glad thats all you did.
  9. Ausfire how are ya mate? Wish I knew about computers to help you out but unfortunatley I'm computer illiterate. Hope everthing else is going good for you, hear from you when you get back on deck mate.
  10. Frosty, bit like asking for pre-shrunk heat shrink.... "What would you want pre-shrunk heat shrink for?" Wished you hadn't.
  11. I was told by the boss at work that I am responsible for a blokes feelings (co-worker, long story), reply: no I'm not, his mother is!
  12. Thats a lot of shop mate. How do you work in it tho? It doesn't look like theres enough room to "swing a cat"????. Nothing wrong with your english either.
  13. Jacob, give it a go mate, I havn't had the oportunity to try it but it will work if you can make good charcoal in your setup.
  14. "We dont serve coal up with a teaspoon" Charles R. Stevens
  15. Ok, have you got the same size motor as Jkmas ?
  16. IMO a heavy canvas liner wont last as long as a spare tyre mate, I also believe heavy canvas would be harder to come by than a tyre. Depend on what is available to you though.
  17. Very sorry to hear that Knots, will say a prayer for you mate
  18. Stan, cause it's sunny up here mate, lol. There's plenty of smiths in Vic and NSW, look up Chris Johns on here, he is in Vic IIRC and he does really nice work. Ethan the BK anvils are cast steel made in Sydney Aus, dont know if they are still making them tho.
  19. Looks real good Stan, and the BK as well
  20. On what Steve said... If we newbies dont smarten up our act we will be faced with a dwindling source of reliable information. Sure we could go it alone but each of us would be better off doing a 7 year apprenticeship than make that many mistakes and learn that many bad habbits thereby futher diluting the trade, or in my case hobbie or craft. The best information on this site is given to all newbies right at the start, the underlying headline is "Do your homework before coming to school" Thats my opinion.
  21. Sorry falsevacum, yes to your first question only
